Pixel size is differant then file size. The pixel size has little affect on how fast it loads. Example an image 1400 x 1400 that is 10kb will load ten times faster then an image 300 X 300 that is 100kb. Most people host their own images on their own server. So it is their own band width on the line if they want a huge file size image. For the those on dial up, there is an option on this board to view it with out sig images.
I was on a motorcycle board that had HTML on. I programmed a sig all in HTML that had differant colors and text and flash effects. It really kicked ass! It was only 4kb when I was done. But some dude couldn't understand that it was code and not an image, so he kept bitching to the fourm leader until they finally turn HTML off. I was so mad! |

Why don't we let people manage their own signatures and move on to a new topic? This isn't red china. People are smart enough to know what to put and what not to put in their sigs.

I really liked idea when there was system where you load your pic (limited size) here, and add teks (links if needed) Then there was also talk that 'linked' pictures wouldn't work soon anymore, but that never came. Now some pictures load very slowly..
I hate to see signature with two 400x400 pics and text+links added. In general, text isn't that bad, it's nice to know something about person, but putting your full list of mods (30+ lines) is bit over top, maybe just then link to your homepage where i can find that info.

Personally, I tire of the images and list of multi-mods and multi-links in sigs, so turned them OFF in my personal settings. I guess the work-around now is to MANUALLY add 3 links and 2 images in the guts of a post. Sheeesh. P.S. I think this version of the BBS does not allow uploading of a sig image, which was limited in size, rather, you can add the appropriate HTML tags in your sig and link to an image unlimited in size, hosted elsewhere. Proof again that it is not Red China. ![]() Mat- thanks for posting. Cool.

Yup, what a difference when they are turned off! No sigs, no avatars. Everything is cleaner and loads faster. I think where the problem comes in, is when folks use their sig pic on every reply to a thread (which can be numerous). As much as I love the PT, I don't need to see the same one over & over when reading posts. All ya gotta do is take the check mark out of the "Show Signature" box when replying so this doesn't happen. Maybe Scott should make the "Show Signature" active rather than passive, meaning you would have to manually check the box to HAVE it appear. your opinion may vary. ![]() |
