Try not to let the tank go that low. As it has been stated ad nauseum, the gas pump needs the gas to keep it cool. Going very low on gas will shorten the lifespan of your fuel pump.

I second that. Not a good idea to drive on fumes, for the reason stated above and also because you don't wanna pull what's at the very bottom of your tank into your fuel system (especially after a few years of ownership). A very knowledgeable repair shop owner always advised me to keep the tank at least one-quarter full.

I had to put 14.8 gallons in mine once. That was the most-yes, I was running on fumes! I could not find a exit in New York (on my way to the Falls) that had gas. Scared the crap outta me!

As has been pointed out, the tank holds 15 gallons. My light comes on after 12.5 gallons have been used. I normally fill up shortly after that and always put in around 13 gallons.

You beat me. My best (worst?) was 14.6 gallons. I typically fill up between 11 and 13 gallons. I don't like cutting it that close. Even though my PT is only a year old, I am sure that there is junk in the bottom of the tank.

14.764 on 9/11/03. And that's not the first or last time I've been over 14 gal.

I guess I like to live dangerously.

14.3 gallons is the most I have put in. Most fill-ups are 11-12 gallons.

As far as pulling stuff from the bottom of your tank, I thought the fuel pick up was a stationary pick-up so it always pulls gas from the same location. Not a pick-up that floats on top of the fuel so it would only pick up stuff from the bottom when you are very low on gas. I could be wrong, I haven't pulled a tank from a car since the late 80's and those had solid fuel lines in the tank.
