Is this a problem with manual or auto trannys? If its a short in a wire could it affect both transmissions?

Mine's an auto. I haven't heard about too many problems with the Manual tranny.
The problem area on mine is a "speed sensor" & it's wiring...so I'd imagine that's a A/T issue ( seems like it would be, but who knows now-a-days??).
