Only three problems outside of general maint. over the last 50K miles. AC compressor failed (under warranty), spark plug wires (under warranty) and ball joints (missed a torn boot and allowed grease to be replaced by dirt
) unfortunate but it could happen to any car.All in all I've got no complaints. Every manufacturer will have some issues from time to time thats why they offer warranties. I drive my cars relatively hard and this has come out well so far. I have owned Ford, Honda, Mazda, Hyundai, Jeep and Chrylser before. If I had to buy a new car today it would be a PT in a second, only change, TURBO . Steve

Just hit 50,000 on min on Monday. Other than oil changes and a front brake job, nothing had had to be fixed. Most trouble free car I've ever had so far.
The highest mileage PT I know of is RhinoWayne in Savannah GA. Last I heard of a couple weeks ago, he had over 123,000 on his and have not heard of any trouble he has had. |

I have 42K miles and just love the car.
I have always been pro GM but GM was'nt making any affordable "LOOKERS" and Chrysler rolled out the PT and OOOOOOOOOHHHH!!! THUMPA ,THUMPA ,THUMPA went my heart just had to have one. I am impressed with what Chrysler has done with this car, it is one of the best I have ever owned out of all the 17 vehicles in 22yrs. of driving. One thing that I have learned over the years is if you go to a dealership that has excellent service department you will love your car even more. |

I've got almost 36000 miles on mine in about 2 1/3 years and had a bad bearing in the steering column, a squeeling window track, a creaking driver's seat bracket, and a loose piece of weatherstripping on a back door. That's it. All were fixed under warranty, although when fixing the steering column the yahoos at the dealership managed to break my clockspring. After a lot of finger-pointing (between the dealership and Chrysler) and ordering of wrong parts it was finally fixed. After a few more dealings with them, I realized they are unable or unwilling to consult the very well organized factory service manual that Chrysler makes available to their Service Techs. I no longer go there for service. The only warning I have about this car is to SHOP CAREFULLY FOR A DEALERSHIP THAT KNOWS HOW TO PROPERLY FIX THIS CAR. You won't need it often, but when you do, you want it done right. Mechanics like MX-5 are rare in my neck-of-the-woods and can make all the difference in your ownership experience. Oh yeah, I had problems with the OEM tires, though no problems with bad belts or shimmies. My Cruiser's tires seemed like they were made from a rubber compound that wouldn't stick to anything wet. After too much rainy-day white-knuckle driving I replaced them at 9500 miles. This was the second time I bought a new car with useless Goodyear tires as standard equipment (I had the same problem with wet traction with the tires that were an "upgrade" on my Ford Windstar van). There are now a lot of PT Cruisers with low miles showing up at this area's local dealerships and it wouldn't surprise me if they were traded "because they just aren't any good in the snow". The tires say M+S rated but that only applies if you can squeeze all the water out, first. Your car's handling is only as good as its connection with the road.

Over 80k here.
I've changed plugs I've replaced tires and got some rims while I was at it. I just got done replacing the brakes, but they still had some good life in them. I need to replace a couple of screws on an exhaust hanger bracket. Besides the usual oil changes and that VW Beetle running the stop sign to hit it, it has never been in a repair shop. Even hitting that deer and sending it spinning across the highway didn't require shop time. I am getting close to the recommended time to change timing belt and antifreeze, but I think those will easily wait until 120k. Best vehicle per mile I have ever owned. |

They are so bad that I bought 2 spares!
53k on my '01; it had a bad clutch slave cylinder which was replaced under warrantee and the couple of service bulletin updates for the early production cars. Other than that, it has performed flawlessly. 18k on the DCS1, only problem is a cracking dash that needs to be looked at. 2k on the DCS2, not in it enough to notice any problems! Seriously, we drove it on an 800 mile round trip last month and it performed flawlessly. Check the JD Power reports, too...
