Wow, JOEM!! I'm sorry to hear about your problem. I had to use that heater trick one time too. It's amazing how well it works. Thanks for the heads up on the hoses. I haven't gotten that far on my ride, so you helped me save some bucks.

I agree you should just shut it down, but sometimes that is just not possible.. When you gotta limp, you gotta limp.. Have done it several times, not with PT though.. Never had to..

Joem sorry about your PT, but glad it came through without more damage...

Thanks, Bosch, everyone. I sure don't want to propogate a bad practice. In my case, the car was very close to home, the heater manuver succeeded in dropping the temp gauge reading significantly, and I drove the car to the dealer in the cool early morn the next day, keeping an eye on that temp gauge. Definitely, if turning the heater on doesn't bring immediate relief, shut down the car--just as you would if the oil light "pinged" on.

Yeah, BH, the chrome heater hose is a waste on time on the Cruiser anyway, since the heater hose placement is so out-of-the-way.

JOEM, I'm glad you didn't have too far to go. The heater "trick" is older than I am, but I've only had to use it once. Besides, if you were losing water, that wasn't going to work very long. Fortuantely, you didn't do any damage. Now, about that panel job............

Check at Amazon or Barnes & Noble, Bully. The DVDs are great; the shows are almost flawlessly presented. Great stuff and you'll find out that there were even more "in jokes" in the series than you thought.

Case in point. My cousins from Cali were coming to Minnesota with a borrowed motor home. The temp light came on and the guage was maxed. They decided to try to make it to the next town, a couple of miles away. They didn't. Their radiator was shot and they spent 5 days in North Platte, Nebraska getting the headsrebuilt and radiator replaced, among other things. $3000 later, they were on their way. If they would have just stopped, it would have just been a couple of hundered bucks.
OUCH!

Glad your PT made it home & then to the shop okay When I bought my PT 1 year & 11 months ago, they had a PT Panel on the lot. My dealer said they werent in full production yet & wasnt sure when. This particular one looked like a Chrysler factory job and boy was it sharp. That one was up for sale and was very tempting. It was black and had an awesome wood floor with rollers (like a hearse) and chrome strips to keep stuff off the wood. Then I saw the Steel Blue and new which car was mine!
