Exclamation FOLLOW UP to Replacement of AXLE

Hey PT guys and gals,

Today I got arather big suprise when I (finally) took my GT in for service....

First, I did NOT take it back to the dealer that has been BS'ing me from the start! They said they would contact DC about the shimmy that remains and look into new axles....and a full week later...NOTHING!

I took my GT to a dealer about 4 miles further from that dealer, and the technician took the time to drive with me for about 1/2 hour to see the problem.

After waiting about an hour for him to finish, I was shocked to learn that all he did was ROTATE THE TWO FRONT TIRES!

THE SHIMMY IS GONE! I tested it for 1 hour afterwards...and all traces of the shimmy is now absent! I love the way my GT is driving...I had forgotten how much I love it with it running correctly!

There was also a minor matter of a knocking noise coming from the headliner area when going over medium bumps (the techie was in the back seat and said it was coming from there), and they said they would need to have it for a whole day to take the headliner out and try to find the problem....so I'll have to wait when I can either get a car (no loaners from DC)...to get it fixed.

Meanwhile, I think I have found myself a new dealer!

Good to hear that you finally found a dealership that will take care of you! Those are few and far between.

That's great. Glad it all worked out and that you have a dealer you can have some confidence in.

Great news! .............I figured it was more then just a coincidence that the shimmy problem changed after the first dealer had your wheels off!

You know all it takes is a screwed up service dept. to make you just hate your car. I've been there and know what its like. I too have changed Dealerships.

Try the PTE "trading post" or "accessorizing" forums.

Great news to you Joe! Glad they got rid of the shimmy. If you are driving my dreamer at slow speeds, you can still see the wheel wobble back and forth. I am going to have them check it out (again) at the 60K service.
