Yesterday I was waxing my 2003 Black GT and I noticed what appears to be silver flakes in the paint. Don't get me wrong it shines better than my Black 2001 Ltd Edition but I'm wondering is this overspray or have they changed the black paint / My 2001 was solid black, no hint of silver flakes.
Just wondering if anyone else with a Black, 2003 GT or Ltd sees this in their paint as well? Pat

I understand exactly what you're talking about. I saw the same condition in both of my black PT's. A 2001 and an ordered 2004 which I turned down for this (and other) reasons. It's seems to be a trait of the paint Chrysler is using. Under certain lighting conditions, the paint seems to have a sparkle to it. It's not metal flake and it's not intentional, and it's more noticeable on the black color. It's actually small micro-pits in the paint that are reflecting light. They all have it. It's very hard to see and you must be looking at the paint in certain lighting conditions and at a particular angle. There will be others here that disagree with me and say their paint does not demonstrate this, but believe me, they have it too - they just don't see it. I'm not talking about swirls here or improperly cared for paint either. One of the reasons I turned down my last PT, after waiting weeks for it, was for this and other paint issues. My first black PT had this problem, way back in March of 2000. What causes this? I have no idea, but apparently Chrysler feels that PT owners are not discriminating enough for them to address it (if they're even aware of it), and by the lack of complaints, they're probably right.

I've never noticed this. Guess I need to wash it & check it out.
Too bad, I was hoping they had a metallic black. I always wanted a metallic 'True Black ' car!!

I have a 2003 Black GT and just got it back from being flamed. I have also just applied several coats of Zaino, which I have been right up on it, and have not noticed this. I did notice a few flakes right around my flames.... However I think that from my flames.
Have not noticed it on any other part of the car.
