I had to change out a leaking tire recently. I noticed the marks on the donut spare, I agree that they appear more to be compression marks. The tire didn't appear to be burned or melted in any way and the mark was not gougelike, it was just if the sidewall had been compressed for a long period of time.

my Cruiser is sitting too low to get at the Donut, I thought about replacing it with a Airtank in case I go with airbags

You know, try as I might, I never seem to have a spare "donut."

I mean, past the teeth and down the hole, look out tummy, here they go!

Well, they (the dealership) say that they are just compression marks from the cage. The only reason I tend to disagree with this is because if there are compression marks, wouldn't they be on both sides of the tire? These marks only appear on the side that was next to the exhaust-not a mark from the cage anywhere on the other side of the tire. I just told them that I wanted it in writing, so that if I end up having to use the donut and it bursts on me-they can be liable for any damages to the vehicle.
