Default Odd Noises.

Does anyone else have this?
When I put the PT in reverse after it has been sitting a while, there is a CLICK from the front end by the wheels. Only the first time I put it in reverse. If I stop and do it again it won't click.
Also, when I hit bumps, like railroad tracks, there is a rattle sound like something under the car is loose.
I'm going to look in to it more this weekend, but I was hope'n that some one has some ideas to save me time trouble shooting.
Thanks.
O-one more thing. I don't have the manual for my car, but it says on the coolent overflow container to add special coolent only. What is the special coolent?

Can't help with the noise situation, but the "special" coolant is orange, not green. Don't know the technical name for it, but it's supposed to be a longer-life coolant., and DO NOT mix the green stuff with it. I'm sure someone else will post with better details soon.

There is a lot of information on the coolant at this link. PTDoItYourself is a great source

We have the exact same noise. Had It checked 3 times at the Dealer, fist tighteded sway bar - no effect, second time they could not hear any problem, third time they said they adjusted the trans???, she goes back in on Friday morning and I'll give you an update. We have driven her at lease 5 thousand miles since it started and it has not gotten worse, so I am hoping it should not be too serious - just want it fixed.

Please let me know. I heard the exact same sound on my Astro van a few months before I traded it in. And on my buddies Ranger. So it must be a loose something that all three have. I'm thinking if it is not the sway bar or Watts link, it might be the muffler or something on the muffler maybe? If I find it, I will post it here.

We did have a noise (rattel) coming from the exhast system when we first got the PT - after dealer could not fix, took it to an exhaust shop - they added a bracket - said the original brackets were as tight as they would go but not tight enough. No noise since - the noise we have now is a click or metillac clunk when put into reverse, brake or no brake, from park or netural, tried many dif combos to pin it down to a specific -

I had a similar noise and it drove me nuts trying to find it. When it started I had about 20,000 kms on the car. Never did find out what caused it but it stopped on its own at about 35,000kms
???????????? go figure

Hi, I will take a guess as what the "noise" is: My car does (well did) the same noise ( going over RR Tracks, gravel, unsmooth parking lot/roads, etc....)
A dealer from town said it was the " Bell- Crank" that goes in the rear of the PT's. I had it replaced a few weeks ago, and I have had "NO NOISE" from the rear of the car.

Now, for the "Other Noise": You say when you've been parked for awhile and shift it into reverse that there's a "Clicking Sound": I get that most of the time. When I shift it into reverse, from Park, then from Neutral to Park, or drive; It clicks. I have no idea and I have brought it to 3 dealers and they say could be:
a Bearing? Tire rod? They don't know till they take it apart.

But, I do want to tell you something else; at the same time that my boy's and I heard that clicking sound that we also hear a whinning sound when we shift it into gear (only in drive & reverse)....I was told I need a NEW TORQUE CONVERTER !!! Believe me, I just purchased the car in May 2003 and MY STATE is investigating the matter at hand. I bought it from a used car dealership here in MAINE...

I paid big bucks for the car and have had MANY problems. I wish I had checked into CHRYSLER before purchasing one. Good luck and let me know what a Dealer would say is the problem with your car. It's absolutely beautiful Please don't get me wrong when I say something against Chrysler, I love my PT; it's one of the neatest cars that I've owned comparing it to my Audi that I sold to purchase the PT !!! Really don't know if it was a good move or not.

Dissappointed gal in Maine....Thanks again and do let me know what you find out?
