Default Mopar cabin air filter

Anyone know if anyone sells a replacement filter element for the Mopar cabin filter. Chrysler only sells the kit and I don't need the plastic housing adapter. I wouldn't think the filter should retail for much more than $5 but it's $20 for the kit. Not a big deal but every bit counts.

It's made by Hilco-Wix. I've tried Wix, Fram, Fleetguard and so far no luck. Any help would be appreciated.

Steve

It should be $14 for the kit from Chrysler.

That's cheaper for the entire assembly than just the filter for many cars.

I went the original DIY concept with the air filter setup.
Suggest U could get a good HIGH QUALITY home air filter, probably the 3M Filtcrete, #1250 model, for about $16 and
it will give U enough for an annual filter change the next 10+ years. May well do that with mine.

The CA3717 may be a generic air filter and not the interior ventilation filter designed for the PT's air intake.

Here's what my online catalog says:
I crossed the Fram to NAPA/Wix

Frankly, I have the Mopar filter and found that 1) my car already had the housing in place but no filter, which makes absolutely no sense, other than DC can sell the filter for probably 5 to 6 times cost and turn a profit and 2) it doesn't stop many of the "odors" on the road. It has however, cut down the amount of dust build up in my car vents, dash and other "hard to reach" places. I'm happy with the filter but will likely try at PTDoityourself.net replacement recommendation in a few more miles - had mine now for about 10,000 miles.

I have had mine in for 6 months/25,000 kms and your right, it doesn't stop the smells but the amount of pollen, dust and exhaust gases(black) it traps is incredible. It seems if you want cleaner air or just want to keep from developing a mud puddle in your ducting when the A/C is on this may be the route.

I did try the Briggs option in PTDIY and found it restricted the airflow more than I would have liked. I could hear the added load on the fan motor trying to draw air in.

I realize the price from Mopar isn't unreasonable relative to the market at $20 CDN. I just can't imagine that Hilco-Wix is only producing this for use by DC as a Mopar aftermarket item. It may be available listed as another application at a cheaper price.

If anyone does find anything let me know, in the meantime I'm happy with the Mopar product.

Thanks,

Steve

Everyone should understand the design theory of the cabin air filter.

They are designed to keep pollen, mold, and mildew from creating odors INSIDE the ductwork and evaporator core. They are not made to keep out odors such as skunk, exhaust, roadkill, etc...

They do not cure evaporator odors you already have.
That is the biggest misconception. If it's already moldy in there, a filter on the outside is useless.
They should be installed as a preventive measure.

I sell over 30 different cabin air filters for many foriegn and domestic cars. Chrysler has never installed one in a domestic car, the PT included. They are standard in the export PTs, and that's where Wendy from Austrailia and I researched the part numbers.
I found that the filters were domestic manufactured and sitting in USA warehouses for export.

I've had cabin filters in my own cars since 1996 and I feel that all cars should have them.
