I have a semi new 2002. im the original owner.. have never ragged on the car.. I tend to stop a little aggressively here and there.... recently when i come to a stop ive been hearing and feeling jumps, and clunks or dull clinks up in the front when i stop.. one time, i even stopped and then it took a whole second or so to downshift and made a grind sound.. car has never been in accident.
when breaking very aggresively, I usually put in neutral until i am completely stopped to avoid wear on the gears, etc. I only do this when i have to stop quick as at a light or a car pulls out infront of me immediately.. what could this be? |

this is DEFINITELY NOT a break problem.. no to all of your questions.. this is definitely a trans problem.
it slips every now and then. its a new car, not raced. daily driver. obviously doesn't do it when im in neutral coming to a stop, but in gear, it jumps and studders a little bit. |

I cant see your braking method causing the problem ,but I cant see it aiding in stopping at all either. You lose the engine braking which naturally occurs thus putting a higher demand on the brakes.
It does sound like an internal shifting problem though as if the clutch packs are not disengaging. I would check and see if you have any codes inthe computer.

It's normal to feel a small 'bump' or sensation like momentarily tapping the brake harder, but it's not normal to hear anything, really. There's a ratcheting noise, which is normal, yet barely audible, but not clunks and grinds.
If it were my car, I would first pull the battery terminals for a while to reset the computers. Drive it for a week or so after that. If the problem persists, I'd let the dealer check out the TCM for any stored info. |
