You can probably forget about warranty coverage for this situation. Yes, the front of the PT isn't as streamlined as most of the vehicles on the road, but thats what makes it unique.
All you can do is preventive driving. Stay back from other vehicles on the freeway, especially trucks. Or buy a bra for your PT. At the end of the day, no matter WHAT you do, there will always be debris kicking up that can do damage. By the way, my PT is Silver, which a lot of people had major chipping problems with (same as you describe on your Inferno). Knock on wood, so far so good after almost 2 years. Other than a few VERY SMALL chips, she's good to go I also wax the bejeebers out of the front, not sure if that helps, but it can't hurt. Good luck and happy cruisin' ![]() |

I have Steel Blue paint, and have only a few dings on the hood after just over a year. I even have a rock chip about 1 cm above the rear wheel well. Must have been from another car passing that popped a rock? A lawn maintenance crew scratched the rear right above the mud flap. It's one of those 'good' scratches, though, in that it looks like it should be there. Go figure! Two of the would-be dings on my head are more like dent marks. I guess that's good if the rock can dent the metal but not chip the paint?
I'm planning on repainting my Steel Blue the new Tangerine color. I've had people tell me that you can tell a paint shop that you want a good thick coat of color, then a really thick clear coat to protect from dings. The new paint job is going to be a money-is-no-object improvement for me. (Not that I'm made of money, by any means.) It's just hard to get a GOOD paint job that even resists mosquito snot. |

Just FYI:
Many makes of cars suffer paint chips. A lot of BMW, Porsche, Mercedes, Corvette, Honda, etc. owners have been using or applying Clearmask, Clear Bra, Bodygard, etc. over trouble spots for protection. Professional installation is recommended. Can read more about it here: http://www.clearmask.com/ and also ask for free door guards. Another site that lists various kits for protection on different body areas: http://www.bgsales.com/pp/chrysler_ptcrusier.asp

My rt. front Goodyear developed sidewall cracks (3 big ones) that I noticed when I got to church this am. So I went to Sears to get new front tires and while there it started one of those midwestern thunderstorms complete with hail. Now I have little white specks all over my hood and fenders. The hail must have chipped the paint. No dents tho.
I am bummed out to say the least! ![]()

I have a "sand blasted" look to my front end...no gravel roads here either. I was one of the early people complaining about the paint. I don't buy the "shape of the car" theory. Have a Mustang with a flat front end & 2 rock chips after 4 years on the exact same roads as the PT. I second the bra. Use mine a lot now, wish I'd bought it sooner. DEFINITELY take it off if you expect any rain, though! You'll get cloudy paint. Mine's stayed on during a few dewy nights without incendent.
I gave up on the whole paint thing w/DC...you get nowhere! Besides...It'll be a good excuse for custom paint someday... ![]()
