Marc, You're jumping to conclusions that you have no evidence to support. Insinuating that some "club" is behind this is totally unfair.

Yes, there is a monoply. In this case it's Chrysler. Most corporations usually go after everyone, not just the little guy. As I said they justify it because they say they are protecting their "image."

In California recently a preschool was forced to paint over some Disney characters that had been painted on the inside walls. In the suit, Disney claimed that the art work did not project a good image for their corporation or protect their good name and copyrighted art work. They did not have to prove a financial loss, but they could have.

Even artists that work for Disney have to get all their art work accepted by the corporation before they can recreate it for sale. When I had a "custom" watch made at Disneyland the artist could only recreate drawings from his collection of art work that had been OKed by the Disney corporation. He could not make any changes in the drawing.

Corporations want a say in the quality and design as well as the money. Read Trevor's post. He knows what he's talking about. We may not like it, but it is the copyright law. BTW--It's the same law that protects art work that you create.

Your not hurting Chrysler by taking off their badges you still bought their car didn't ya? If someone really wants a PT Cruiser they are gonna buy one wether they see one that has Chrysler's emblems on them or not. I don't think they will go after clubs. Afterall the clubs are what is advertising for them a lot. Whenever people see a long line of cool looking PT Cruisers going through town they are bound to see one they love. Just my opinion of course.

Don, nowhere in this thread do I accuse a Club.
The ONLY mention of the word "Club" is in Post #4 (my post) where I say "They did some research, went on to some "Club" site (different Clubs)".
My friend that sent me the information when the guy was looking for "Marc St. John", belongs to a CLUB.
You made your OWN Conclusion that I was accusing a certain Club...
I was NOT accusing any Club in my posts.

And Besides, Don, Picking on a Club, any Club is AGAINST PTE Forum Rules !!!

Hey Don, pretty soon, you won't be able to post picture of your PT Cruiser, like in your Sig. Copyright laws you know

Infact...you only hurt yourself if you remove th badges.........
1.)Try trading it in and see how much value is removed because th badges are removed.......
2.)IF...mind you IF..you are looking at LLLLOOOONNNNGGGG term collectability/value.......ORIGINAL vehicles(this means a car COMPLETELY)as it came off the showroom floor are more valuable.A person in 30 years looking to purchase a cruiser for original collectability...maybe from someone who has removed the badging will be quite right t offer less than the asking price.ESPECIALLY if it is a rarer factory production.....example...Dreamers and early 1T2,1T3 models........

Yes,I have added mods to my 1T2 early production....but EVERYONE is a simple swap out.The only thing I would have to buy to replace is a switch cover for the center dash where the ahh-ooga horn switch is located.

Just my 2 cents.....

So you de-lable it...do you reckon no one will KNOW that it's a PT CRUISER (r) made by CHRYSLER (r). What's the point?

Marc, you're starting mass hysteria with this post

I wrote this Jim Character another email after that last one he sent me...
I asked him what it would take to get a license, who they were after and what they were after.

His Reply:

Marc,

The million dollar question. Here are my responses:

1. In order to take a license, you will need consumer product liability ($1
million) insurance
2. Pay an advance and royalty on net sales ($1,500 advance and 10% on
wholesale sales)
3. Do we go after infringers - absolutely. We tend not to bother the PT
Cruiser clubs. But if product is being sold through retail, catalog and other
distribution channels outside of the dealerships, we tend to go after them.
Please remember, our resources are limited, so we can only focus so much time
on going after infringers.

4. If you have your own image or create an image (illustration) of PT Cruiser
and sell it for a profit, then you need a license.

Regards,
James

Cripes... "We tend not bother PT Cruiser Clubs". Oh Gee, I wonder why?
Mmm, that's the ticket then.....start a PT Cruiser Club of your own...

Looks like to me that it is ok for me to make a shirt with a PT Cruiser on it, then sale it just over cost , not trying to make a big rpofit like some places do ?

Just as long as I do not try and sale a lot on the Internet or thru catalogs.....
Since they say "We tend not to bother the PT Cruiser clubs."
Gee have they figured out that the clubs are what are helping all the sales of their cars & accessories ?

Fred, if you make PT Cruiser T-shirts But Don't sell them.
Suggest to the folks that you are not selling them and it would be nice if they offered you some sort of Appreciation gift ($$) for your trouble..
Works with me...and you are not SELLING Anything...

Chrysler and the artist formerly knowns as "name removed to protect identity" are just pissed cause they never jumped on the band wagon and started selling reasonably priced accessories to us enthusiasts. another case of little guy losing. Apparently Chrysler isn't making enough $$ from us already
