Does Chrysler have a patent on the name PT Cruiser ?
When am I going to get my check from Chrysler for advertising for them ? I drive one with the name PT Cruiser on the side, also the Chrysler emblem.
I am advertising the car for them !

Is this why when some people customize their cars they remove the emblems ?

Hey come to think of it I wore a hat that said PT Cruiser on the side of it also

Does that mean I can not call my club "PT Cruisers of Champaign Car Club"
If not that is really stupid !

Guess I better be sure my kids don't draw a picture of my car. They might go to jail if they sold it for 50 cents to one of their friends at school. But then what if they won a art contest by drawing a PT Cruiser, then would the school be liable for contributing to the deliquency of a minor ? Where is this all going to stop. Car clubs have been around for ages. They have always had pictures of their cars on their sites, t-shirts, banners etc...

I can understand it if the people are selling hundreds or thousands of items using what you say. But leave the small car clubs alone with their 20 shirts or what ever !

Lots of big companies are like that and it really sucks! We've been going to a small mom 'n pop restaurant in the Pocono Mountains for many years. The subtitle on their sign says "The friendliest place in the Poconos". A couple of years ago, a Friendly's Restaurant opened down the road from them. They promptly sued mom 'n pop and made them remove the subtitle from their sign and advertising even though they were there first. Since they never copyrighted it, and Friendly's did, they were SOL.

Oh,you think this is retarded....how about this.I work for a major buisness corporation. It,like many,is divided into individual buisness units.I work for one of the engine assembly facilities. If we have some kind of shop event ....and say it is recognized by the management high up.....they authorize the print up of event shirts...we can NOT use the OFFICIAL corporation emblems. They say that it is because the emblem is copyrighted for the entire Corp as a whole and no one buisness unit can use it to represent itself!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think what it comes down to is setting a precedent. If they knowingly allow one person to use their copyrighted material that would set a legal precedent for anyone else to use it too. Next thing you know Disney could (theoretically) be selling PT images at the park.

There is no reason however that DC could not license the little guy for a very nominal fee. Instead of sending a threat, send an invitation to be legal for $10 or something that would constitute consideration and additionally keep the "good will" of the people that buy their cars and want to express themselves in more ways than are available at the dealership (don't even get me started on car dealers).

Can't do likeness of PT Cruiser. ???
That is way off.
Phooey to that I say. !! That is Crap. The PT Cruiser looks like some old Fords. Does that mean that Ford can go after Chrysler for creating a "Likeness" of their Retro Cars?

I will CONTINUE to Do Cartoons of the Cruiser (can't say PT Cruiser anymore) and I may even Sell some. In Fact, I know I will sell some.

How about this for a protest? If D-C pushes the issue of copyright infringment, a special T-shirt can be made for any of the many events that are going to happen this summer. Quite simply, remove all images of the PT Cruiser from the shirt designs and replace them with a PT Cruiser-shaped blank space. Inside the blank outline of the "car" print a message that says,"THIS SPACE LEFT BLANK AT THE REQUEST OF DAIMLER-CHRYSLER". Don't forget the little "R" inside the circle next to their name. We wouldn't want to make them mad at us.

I noticed Streamline no longer sells the visor and shelf labels with the Chrysler logo and PT Cruiser logo, now it's a simple CRUISER. Guess they got to him as well.

Greedy people suck.

I can think of quite a few web sites that are making money selling all manner of items with the words "PT Cruiser" and a likeness of the vehicle on them.

Are they chasing them also?? Take a look at another well known website with a message forum dedicated to PT Cruisers on it (not the one that bills itself as the "The Official PT Cruiser Owner Club") and look at their online store!

Why is it these people start chasing the small guys first? Must have been a slow day in the office... either that or someone is trying to justify their existence!
