I presume you gave them a heavy coat of wax prior to storage? Don't know what else you could have done.

Giving them a heavy wax coat before going into storage and placing them in plastic bag (expressing all air out) and sealing well to prevent any oxidation will prevent this from happening. Be sure to use a chrome polish. Hope they're not ruined.

A light spray of oil, the rust-proofing type, before storage will also help. DO NOT use vaseline or WD-40 types, they be BAD!

P.S. save the vaseline for other uses.

man, that's too bad
maybe this last time you got caught and still had them on for the season's first snow last fall? ....and even though you cleaned them, perhaps there was still some residual salt on them?

Sorry bout that problem Scott. You have a sharp car and a lotta $ in the wheels.
Having had old car stuff for years, I must say that condensation is the problem of rusting. Esp if items are low, at the floor. Metal items get cold faster than everything else, air leaks into garage even if its attached to house, and moisture in air condenses on the metal items.
Painted wheels wont rust except at chipped areas. Chromed items always prone to rust hence the need for wax or an oil coating.
IMHO todays chrome is suspect, esp in aftermarket items.
Good Luck next year. I wood try BOTH the bags AND the oil or wax coating, and close bags tight. Discount tire and others return takeoffs in bags, U could get bags there.
