Marc...
Most of the body shops and dealerships that do the bumper and side mirror painting... told me that not only do they sand the bumpers... but they also use a flexible adheasion spray that helps the paint stick to the bumpers. If they are not awre of this procedure... you may want to check some other places for quotes... ![]()

I agree, sand the bumpers and use a flexible primer which will help fill in the roughness as well as secure the paint. I had it done five months ago, drove across the country been thru snow and now desert and its holding up fine.
I got mine free, so I cant compare price, I do recall a estimate some time back that was more then your $350.

So far we are very pleased with the bumpers no problems at all. I just pm you.... I am also leaving a message to Kevin so that he can reply to you....He is on afternoons this week so we only talk on the phone.... In my opinion go for it..... Tarsi BTW...the dealer that did our bumpers is the same one that Reids and Sean used. They are also painting PTGlen bumpers this week. Tarsi

Sounds like a good price & pretty comparable to most of what I've read. I had ONE bumper done for $200.
The flex adhesion spray is a MUST. Make sure that the place you have them done is aware of this step. I would try to get a warantee if you can. Hope this helps! Kat

Mine were not sanded nor removed from the car. You can't see the grain in the bumpers. Bodyshop guys said they guaranteed the paint job forever. Have not had any problems. Don't know how they prepped them or what they used, but they were painted 8-9 months ago and they look fine. Paid about the same as your quote.

Run the other way that guy has no idea what he is doing. He is full of it that the paint will peel. There is a special primer ( Flex Agent ) that must be used. Mine are as smooth as the rest of the of the car. I went to allot of shops and ended up driving 50 miles to a shop that had done quite a few sets before I chose them. My advice is to talk to other PT's in your area and find out where they had theres done16 months and 2 winters and the only thing I have on mine are some rock chips. I paid $ 500 for bumpers and mirrors ![]() |

Most shops that I have talked to do not want to paint the bumpers for the reasons stated.
However, I know of one painter that has done both bumpers and mirrors. They are glass smooth and are holding up well. He did not sand them smooth. They were first cleaned then he used a high-fill primer which was sanded for a smooth finish. |

The price for the two bumpers isn't bad, if done correctly. I have a GT and of course they are already painted, but the mirrors aren't. For the mirrors they must be filled/primed first. The bumpers shouldn't be a problem what so ever to some one who knows what they are doing. Don't go to where you got your first price. Hunt down those other PT Cruisers with the painted bumpers. They will be more than happy to give you advise. Good luck.
