You are living proof that the most important part of a PT is what's inside it.
I am not a great fan of front airbags; too many people think the bags mean they
really don't have to wear their belts. (I believe in seat/lap belts, after hitting
a cow head-on many years ago). There's often a second or third collision
within milliseconds of the first and I like to see where I'm going, instead of
being stunned by a bag in the face. But I do think the side impact bags make a lot
of sense.

You are correct about there being second and third collisions, but I think your collisions and mine are slightly different.
The first collision is when your vehicle hits/gets hit by 'whatever'.
The second is when your body hits objects in the vehicle ie steering wheel, pillar, airbag.
The third collision is when your internal organs hit the inside of your body, which is where all the damage is really done.
Would rather have my body hitting a cushy pillow and absorbing most of the second collision to lessen injuries in the third, than hit a steering wheel or door pillar...
