Default REV LIMITER while in park.

FYI - I noticed on my PT that when you would rev the engine while in park the engine would cut out around 3500 RPM. This did not happen while driving the car but still had me concerned (bad gas, ignition problem etc.). Called my salesman and asked him to check if the car has a rev limiter on it, they didn't know. I stopped in to the service dept and asked and they said there shouldn't be one that low and it must be a problem. Well, I took the car in for service and they had a service technician look at it while I stood there and he didn't understand it either. They said they would put it on the computer. After all the asking and reading they finally told me it DOES have a rev limiter on it so be aware.

Interesting. Knew there was one at redline, but didn't realize the computer gave a lower limit if in park. I wonder if that applies to 5-speeds when the clutch is depressed. Probably not.

Along the same lines, I tried matting the accelerator on a rental Taurus, and it had a limiter at redline. Not something I'd try with my beloved PT though. I'm a bit surprised you did!

I would have been surprised if I tried it also but the red line is at 6000 RPM not 3500. It seems a bit low to me but as long as it doesn't affect the running of the car in gear I guess it can't hurt. I still enjoy driving this car...

Default Its okay

I know I am comparing different makes of cars, but I had a 97 Firebird which had the same thing. In park the car has a Rev limiter at 3500RPM. Its normal.

Thank you for the comparison. I only wished that my dealer could of told me that before I had to bring the car in for them to look at it... Happy Cruizen...
