Well you were very lucky indeed. Not because you got there first but because you didn't KILL anyone. I know it's tough but in a situation like that just let him go! Let intellect prevail.
In my city there have been 20 plus lives lost because of this growng trend. Here you could have been charged with Street Racing and had your car impounded on the spot. Followed by a trial and the loss of your license for at least a year. This sort of Irresponsible behaviour has to STOP! Use your head not your ...

See, the thing I mentioned was I ALWAYS take off fast and people here know that. If a city cop wants to charge me with racing, I'll have it struck within a few hours and then return the favor by taking away the "employment" thing. No trial, no loss of license. I'm not very lucky that I didn't kill anyone. I'm not some idiot who hopped in a car with two pedals and immediately assumed I was an expert racer or any kind of racer. In fact, at this time, I am NOT a racer. I've learned driving through doing quite a lot of it. When I first began driving, I hated it and was AFRAID of driving. I got over that after a while but didn't like it. Then possession of a fishtailing truck, BMW with rear end that'd slip all over, Porsche 914 and now this car have taught me fairly well. I agree with the irresponsible thing though. That guy should not have been abusing the turn lane in such a manner. On a lot of issues, I lean liberal, but not on some. I am a strong believer in the fact that driving license testing should be many times more difficult than it is now. Punishment for failure to obey the law should be harsher than it is now. I also believe that those in such blatant violation of the law should NOT get away with it. If I let a vehicle pass me as the F150 tried to, I would be allowing him to bully me. He has no intention of killing me. He is relying on his vehicle being faster and on me being more timid than he is in order to abuse the turn lane and hop in front of me. Allowing him to go ENCOURAGES that behavior. Allowing him to go CONFIRMS that he can do that and thus, SHOULD do that since it works and gets him to his destination faster. Allowing him to go not only encourages that behavior THERE but elsewhere as well, such as on the highway, at MUCH higher speeds, with smaller gaps to cut into when passing on the right. Sure, if ice magically appeared on a SC road in OCTOBER, I could have slid out of control. But that did not happen and has not the MANY DOZENS of times this has happened with me. I do not want to be the one responsible for teaching the driver of the F150 that such behavior is acceptable only to find he killed some people by trying the same on the highway and MISSING the spot he wanted. He can learn to be patient and obey the law. Thank you for your input, but keep in mind my experiences, my point of view, what DID happen and what it would mean to let him go. I DID think this out and DO before I go. I don't blunder through all aspects of life. RN

Yep, a town of less than 50,000 with corrupt law enforcement. They don't stop adults who run people off the road, speed horribly and run lights...but they do stop young looking drivers whether they're moving or not, whether they've broken a law or not. When seeing a complaint against an officer through, I got out of his superiors that they spend some of their time pulling red cars for personal amusement. They said it's because of the "red car driver attitude" that they pull them. No other reason, though, of course, such an attitude cannot possibly be known before pulling someone over. I also got to listen to how they hoped I wasn't another kid the officer I filed against had pulled. Apparently, the officer in question followed one kid around all one night, repeatedly pulling the kid, giving him warnings and tickets (some being the same "offense" the kid had no opportunity to right). When I asked about certain issues as to the legality of pulling people in red cars or for being young, they told me to shut up because I'm "some smart ass kid." They then told me they can pull whoever they want, whenever they want, treat them as they want and see no consequence for it. They also told me that, in direct conflict with the SC code of law, their officers need not have on any form of ID or present ID or badge to someone they pull when requested to. Basically, they wanted to be local gods and I called them on it. When I made it clear that I know lawyers and could sue them, they shut up real fast so as to not lose this self-imposed "status."
And funny coincidence...last autocross I had "01" for my number... RN
