A nearby dealer (will never buy from them) was selling PT's at $3999 over msrp about one to two months ago. Indicated by slip of paper on the window, next to the sticker.
Now, their paper sticker in the window, only says a markup of $1999. This same dealer, had the paper sticker on Volkswagons, last summer, at $4999 over sticker. Now, those new Volkswagons, are $1,000 under msrp, as indicated on the little paper sticker they add to the window. ----------------------------- CarMax, had the best deal with allocation, of $100 under msrp on a PT. But they charge $99 for title and $3 for tag fee, which is about a $50 higher title fee than most dealers charge. So, they are about $50, net, under msrp. Still one of the best deals around, for an ordered unit, with an available allocation left. (Have not checked recently, in last month, to see if allocations are used up yet) ----------------------------- One local dealer, I tried to get to match Meltonsales.com deal, of about $1,000 under msrp, on a base unit. The dealer, actually has a aquamarine (or shale green, can't recall) 5 speed, no options, pure base unit with 5 speed on his dealer floor, that he said, he would sell for $1000 under msrp. This is a brand new unit. If it was Red, I may have gone down to look at it, to consider buying it. But, this may be, an indication, prices are about to become more normally negotiable soon. (Unless there was a trick once you arrive to see it.) ----------------------------- Anyone seen evidence, in your area, that PT prices are coming down? ------------------------------------ |

I had to walk out of many show rooms. Took many calls offering deals $1 to 7K over. Had to wrestle, rangle, duck and cover to find a deal that the dealer wouldn't admit they gave me if asked. The process may be getting less sucky but it still SUCKS. I really dig the PT though :-) |

Tall Man- In DC/Va/Md area it seems prices are pretty much holding. Only a few dealers still taking orders. What is on the lots are at a premium. A friend of mine who had one on order did find one 3 hrs from here sitting on the lot at list price. He bought it right away as he was told by his original dealer he may not get a 2001. He didn't get the color he wanted but I saw the car this morning and he's happy! You know and I know this can't last, same thing that happened with the VW Bug will happen to the PT. Reality will come back into the marketplace at some point and there will be a new car or "thing" everybody wants and can't get. Right now unfortunately it's the PT.

A motoringTV show over here said this week that prices on cruisers had fallen but did not say by how much. I haven't seen any sign of prices dropping at my local dealer. Even his ex demonstator is list price.
The PT didn't come out well in the TV show, which appeared to be vey biased towards the incredibly ugly Fiat Multipla which looks like a van with windows. |
