We ordered our PT 4-29-00. I was told it shipped Mexico 2-20-01. I was quoted $21,015.00 signed Retail Purchase Order. The dealer is telling me that we have to pay the latest price, about $1600.00 more. Then Chrysler would refund us about 4 weeks later. I called Chrysler Customer Service in MI. They said it was up to the dealer, and that the dealer would pay the original price to Chrysler. Has anybody else run into this?

We ordered our car 10 days before you and took delivery on Jan. 18; car's window sticker carried the higher price, but our dealer had assured us we would not have to pay the higher price since we were price protected. he said it was simply a matter of him entering the appropriate code in Chrysler's computer system, which he had done; we paid exactly what we had agreed to.
I would make sure I have something in writing from your dealer if they are going to make you pay extra money upfront and then wait for a rebate. If they were up on their procedures, this wouldn't even be an issue for you. |

If you have a written Purchase Order -- I think that would be a contract !! I would give a quick call to a lawyer. I'm sure they will tell you that that document is a binding contract and they have to honor it. If there are rebates from the Mnfg. they will have to get it from Chrysler.
At least threaten them with an attorney !!! They just want their money right away while you wait for yours !!! Don't fall for it ! |

Here is a copy of the response I received from Chrysler when I inquired about this subject. Hope the information helps.
Thank you for your e-mail inquiring about the status of your PT Cruiser order. Your selling dealer is the best source for information concerning your order. Please contact the Sales Manager at your dealership for a discussion of the issue. Sold retail PT Cruiser orders received on or before November 1, 2000, that are filled in the 2001 model year, are price protected (to the dealer) for the price increase that was effective on November 2, 2000. On retail orders received after November 1, 2000, that will be filled in the 2001 model year, certain option package prices have increased. Please see your dealer for details regarding these price increases. Should your dealer have questions concerning these increases, he should contact his local Zone office for assistance. Retail orders received before or after November 1, 2000 that cannot be filled for the 2001 model year, will have to be resubmitted as a 2002 model year order. It is anticipated that orders for the 2002 model year will be excepted sometime in the May time frame. PT Cruiser orders for the 2002 model year will not be price protected. Pricing and content for the 2002 model year has not been established. Traditionally, we announce vehicle pricing just prior to the start of the model year production, which is July for the 2002 PT Cruiser. Please be informed that the sales transaction for the purchase of a vehicle is a negotiated transaction between the Dealer and his retail customer. Any discussion of sales agreement prices must be discussed with your selling dealer. I trust this information will help to clarify this issue for you.
