Default Mixed feelings day....

I'm not having a great day...

Last night my 15 year old daughter opened up the door of my Ranger and hit the right rear door of the PT. It put a small dent and a fairly good sized scrape in the paint.

I was very upset, I love that car, and I told her she has to be more careful. I guess my anger clouded my vision and I wasn't able to see how upset she was about hitting it in the first place, she started crying and ran to her room.

I went up and talked to her about it and told her that I realized it was an accident, but it just upset me because I try to keep the PT as nice as possible. She doesn't understand, her response was "It's just a car!". She's right of course, it's just a car, but ......well you guys know what I mean.

So, today, I took it to the muffler shop and had them install my new Mopar/Borlan dual exhaust system, and I should be excited as hell, but I just don't feel right. It sounds very nice and looks terrific but there's just this dark cloud over the whole day...

V, until you can get the dent fixed, just cover it with a bullet hole decal ( actually, use 3 on each side in a pattern. they come 6 to a pack). It'll make you feel better! Tom

VtPTLover... I'm sorry, but I just had to laugh...that was funny when you said, "she started crying and ran to her room...." I could picture it already... LOL (the image of Jan Brady came to mind...LOL)

Seriously though, I'm sorry to hear about your car mishap... I'm sure it was anaccident, a careless one....I know to "US" the PT is sacred, always looking for dust, marks, scratches, dents, dings, etc...and here's our family, oblivious to our obsessions of our PT, that we flip over the damge to our PT's rather than transfer the balme on the actual "act", the door hitting your PT.... I'm sure she'll understand, and yes, "it's just a car"...but you and I know, it's NOT just a car...it's PT!

I hope your daughter isn't too distraught...she'll know where you're coming from when one one day, one of HER prized possessions or cherished things get damaged etc...then shell truly understand that some things, material or not, have personal value and meaning to each of us...in this case it was your beloved PT... good luck and enjoy your day...try not to feel bad... I would have done the same thing in your shoes...
best wishes to you..
Tony

Well... perhaps if Ms. Its Just A Car is 'in' on all the cost of having it repaired... then she will be inclined to be more careful next time??

While I can't speak from experience, I'm sure it's hard to instill any values in kids who live in a 'throw away' society.

They think Daddy can just go buy them a new one all the time.. and generally he does... since the kids seem to have better lawyers these days. blech....

You know and I know.. that the repairs will be about 2 cents short of your deductable amount to fix it.. LOL

Sorry to hear about the scratch....If it was "just a car" they would not own a piece of our hearts,,,,You are right she doesn't understand...wait...just wait until she gets one of her own...THEN she will "understand"...

Up until last week I felt the same way as you do about my PT. My kids are even afraid to sit in it for goodness sakes.Last week I was talking to an owner of a new Thunderbird and asked him if it was a daily driver his response was darn right it is and I'll drive it in the winter too. It's just a car when its time is up I'll get another car and drive it also. This conversation changed my whole outlook about my Pt. Yes I'll still keep it nice as possible considering unavoidable things happen to cars and then get another one. Maybe a GT, Dream ll, Woody or somethoing else. Your daughter is wise beyond her years you should be proud of her for enlighting you. Show her this post .
