My bumpers were painted to match my Inferno Red Cruiser and I think they look great. Saw a silver cruiser with painted bumpers at the meet and greet in Northampton Mass in November and it also was a great look! Mine were painted by my dealer and if it is to be done right it is a big job. They removed both bumpers, sanded them down, primed them, applied two coats of paint and then baked the bumpers in an oven for two hours. I also think it is neat when I see other red cruisers with the standard black bumpers and they look at mine wondering why it looks so different. If you get them painted I think that you will be pleased. Good luck!

My Pt is in the custom shop as I type this having the Xenon Bumper cover/ Air dam - Sides and Rear Bumper cover painted and installed. Also having the mirrors painted while it is in there. I have seen REESE"S car and the painted bumpers look great. Remember have them sand them until they are satisfied that they are PERF -- then sand them again ! You will be very pleased with the look when its done ! People have been paying up to
$ 400.00 for this work.
Lets see some pics when its done !

Would it not be an equally good idea to purchase the Xenon front and rear bumper covers and have them painted instead of painting the real bumpers?

It seems to me that this would give you better paint adhesion and a longer-lasting finish than painting the bumpers and having them get chipped by stones.

What was the cost of having the bumpers removed and painted?

The Xenon kits change the look of the car from Mild To Wild depending on which components you use. People that want to maintain the stock look but add a little flash usually just paint the stock bumper covers. Some the side mirrors as well. If done properly they will be no more prone to stones - chips - cracks then the rest of the car.

My earlier post was partly in error. I meant to put in a plug for E&G Classics. They make a real neat set of running boards as well as Front and Rear Bumper Covers.

The bumper covers are not part of an expensive ground effects kit and are available in
Chrome as well as unpainted. They can be seen at the following web site:

Don't forget BEFORE and AFTER pictures...

What was your criteria in deciding to go WILD? I am on the fence whether to go WILD or not. The PT for me, is the weekend/cruising vehicle, not the everyday car (have a van and other car for that) but I am stull undecided. I want to lower (1.5" front, 2" rear, 17-18" rims, ...) but again, its not like I will go back to stock after doing said mods. Just can't decide....
