[b]PT Crser (17 Aug, 2001 03:21 p.m.):[/..... Wasn't it last week she was crawling up one side of me and down the other not wanting to go to pre-school? I'll take the obnoxious boyfriends, extra food bills and power bills, and god-awful rap blaring anyday! It is waay to quiet around here!
Ditto....the silence can be deafening! You find yourself doing crazy things......ordering a cutting edge cool car, waiting forever for it, knocking 10 year old little boys out of your way in the diecast aisle at Wal-Mart to add to your collection of 'toys' , need I say more!!

Did you say ISU, as in Illinois State University? We just moved my son there on Thursday (transfer student from Joliet Junoir College), and we too are now empty nesters! I tried to teach my son to drive a stick in my PT, but he didn't quite get the hang of the clutch. At least he didn't try to take it to school with him...

This is freeky, as we too drove him and all of his stuff there in a blue van (a plymouth v-ger) and are thinking of getting rid of it after the 2nd semester starts.

Here's what I do to our kid. When she's in the car, she's trapped. If she wants to get to where she has to go, she puts up with me and my stuff. I have Lenny Kravitz or Van Halen up full blast (side mirrors thumping in time with the base is compulsory) screaming the songs as loud as possible whilst head banging (and trying to see the road at the same time), nudging her and telling her she can join in any time. By this stage, she's almost crying for me to stop it. She did secumb once and start singing, then realised what she was doing and cried even more!!!

Get to the gates of the school and wait for her to open the door - music still blasting. Yell at top of voice I LOVE YOU SWEETIE, DO YOU LOVE YOUR MUMMY??? DON'T WORRY ABOUT WETTING YOUR BED, EVERYONE DOES IT. DO YOU HAVE A SPARE SET OF UNDERWEAR JUST IN CASE?????? By this stage, the child is on the ground, face purple with embarrassment, begging in a strained whisper for me to stop it and act normal.

When she comes home and cranks up her music, I start dancing and singing like a fool again. This causes her to turn down the music to stop me. She's only 8 now, so how much fun am I going to have when she hits teenage years!!!

Reverse psychology is a cruel and ruthless form of love, but it is just soooooo much fun!!!!!!!

I can feel for you Jackie O! My son will be 10 in November and before I know it I'll be dropping him off at some University some where. I'm already trying to talk him into going to UCONN. That's only a hop skip and a jump away....
He starts back to school next week and I will miss him terribly. We've had the whole summer together and have had a BLAST! We are going to take one last cruise to the beach sometime this week. Just think, you and your hubby can have some romantic cruises together. Just the two of you. This could be very nice. Keep your chin up, you'll adjust fine.

Ahhhhh, for the pleasure of the empty nest again...you see, once you ship them off, they return!!!!!! It may take awhile, but they come back with MORE stuff. The 21 yr old, last Nov. broke up with girlfriend, came home with DOG they just HAD to have....the 22 yr old moved back when I was at a conference in June...he's still sleeping on the couch as we'd converted his romm into a music/internet room. There's NEVER anything to eat, despite the fact that I grocery shop 2x/week..the air isn't cold enough..
Love them dearly, but a few miles between us would be heaven right now!!

Wow, it's like Deja vu all over again.
Took my oldest son to the record store for his birthday. (He turned 13) He bought some Brittney Spears and I bought The Ozzman Cometh and the new AC/DC. Of course we listened to AC/DC at high volume on the trip home. I guess I'm real lucky. My boys like my old metal music and we all (except my wife) sing along to Jehtro Tull.
I was born with a stiff upper lip...

Hey, I hear you and my son will be 10 in October. Try Brittney Spears and nsync (instead of rap). It would be o.k. if he didn't listen to it fully distorted. And how about that thump, thump, thump-thump bass deal going on? I am always yelling-hey Gus if you are going to play it that loud, I want to hear VanHalen (or Ozzy, or AC/DC). You can't play dance music that loud because there are no screaming guitars. These kids today will never learn! Oh for some peace and tranquility-now I know what my dad was talking about-all he wanted was peace and tranquility.

Maybe we will see you around!! Our old blue is a Plymouth Grand V-ger needed it to tour the mid-west during hockey season and go to Chicago almost every weekend! Moved our son, 18 Freshmen, 6'2" benches 305 (on last count) into Watterson 20th floor! 2,200 kids in that dorm! But move in went a lot faster than I thought. Kevin took the stairs 4 times while we were in line for an elevator. Very quiet around here, and you know something the phone rings very little, except for friends (ours) and sales-people. He has called home once. I've been cleaning for the last 4 days trying to get everything in shape before my school starts tomorrow. We haven't had a clean house sense the kids and I have a big fear with them gone we'll find out it really isn't all their fault like I've said all these years . We had meet the teacher tonight and I had more parents ask me about my PT than my curriculum! Gotta love that car!!!!!
