Would someone explain the band settings for using the walkie-talkies. I own 2-Radio Shack radios without instructions. Please explain which channel for road use. And, what did someone say about eliminating the [other] bands?

Are they CB, or FRS (27 Mhz or 400 Mhz)?

I don't understand Quiet code?? The owners instruction manual is very poorly written

Quiet Codes allow you to scramble your conversation so that only other radios set to the same scramble code can listen.

The FRS radios are standard 14 channels. Say you are on chan. 5. Anyone with one of those radios, set to chan. 5 can hear you. (or a 14 channel radio, with scramble codes, who has the scramble set OFF or to 0).

Now, if you are on channel 5, sub-channel (scramble code 22 for example), ONLY those who are on the same 5-22 channel can listen/talk.

There are 2 types of FRS radios- ones with scramble codes, others without. Using the scramble codes eliminates those who do not have scramble codes to communicate.

If you DO have scramble codes, turn them OFF, and you can still talk to the other kind, no prob. THis is why the 14 channel, with 38 sub code radios are nore $$.

I'm going to test drive them radios today. I'm drivin to Rochester NY to see horses. The City is having a fund raiser to dectorate full-scale size horses. There are hundreds of horses all around the city. Thanks, I'll be all ready for the caravan to joisey. Bernie
