Has anyone changed the dash speakers? I can't remember who makes them, but there is a 4" component speaker set available. Is it possible to modify the 3.5" speaker opening to accomidate the 4" speaker?

I also like Infinity's Basslink subwoofer package. I think it will fit under the passanger seat with no problem. The dimensions are 14-1/2" x 12-1/2" x 8" . Can anyone confirm this?

renichms I would also go with a separate head unit and DVD player. This gives you the option of upgrading to blue laser tech or a DVD nav system in the future.

Dan
1. Basslink won't fit under seat

2. Blue laser DVD format has NOT been ratified (two competing formats, blu-ray and blue laser, sony and toshiba respectively). Thus we are looking 2 years minimum before we ssee product. Car product will follow much later than that.

3. The Clarion piece I suggeted has AUX video inputs, so you can add Navigation, VCR, XBOX or whatever you like to the source as well.... It can even be upgreded to TRUE Dolby Digital / DTS with a simple add-on unit.

I just added a 300 watt JBL amp and a JL Audio 12" woofer in a little box. It makes my car go BOOM.....and has caused me to say "what?" alot.

Is this the touch-screen one or would that be the Eclipse or something? What I'm shooting for is AT LEAST a 6.5" screen in the front for the passenger. I'm usually the driver and don't need too much distraction. I also want to get a DVD player built in somewhere up front (preferrably). Especially if it replaces the stock stereo, I'd need it to play music CDs and MP3. DVD would be nice too, especially if it can read MP3s from a DVD-R (know any that do?).

The AUX video/audio input is VERY important because I need to hook it into the 3 other screens in the car (5.6" on back of each front seat and 15" in back of car - no switch needed because I WANT them to all show the same thing). However, it needs not just the input but some sort of output or I'll be doing a lot of splitting of the signal with cables. A permanent RCA input will be installed in the rear custom enclosure, so ideally, I'll be able to input from front or back of the car.

Would the Clarion unit accomplish all that? Could it accept my other inputs and output from its DVD to all the other screens?

Once the rear and front screens are in, I'm done adding screens. Four is more than enough for a whole car. Also, once I have a DVD/MP3/CD player, I probably will NOT be replacing it or the stereo once it is in place until either a new format comes out or DVD-R works for playing custom DVDs, DVDs loaded with MP3s or even (gasp!) copied DVDs.

I am planning on replacing my factory stereo to the one pictured below. I've always liked this stereo.

I wish someone would make a custom enclosure to put in the rear cubby without a sub. I already have a Fosgate Punch 10" sub and a Punch 75.2 amp in my truck. I plan on putting factory stereo back in my truck because I will be selling it when i get my turbo.

1. The Clarion unit is a 7" widescreen & Touch screen

2. It WILL play DVD, MP3, Video CD, and CD-RW's but WON'T play DVD-RW, but thi smay change with newer burners...(not DVD+R either)

3. It does have the Video Input, but for 4 screens use their Video distribution amplifer to save picture quality.

Brad-

Nice selection of equipment for the install. You don't see too many Denon head units around and Focals are awesome. I'd like to upgrade to the Diamond HEX series that uses the cloth tweets.

Any pics of your install? I checked out the website and didn't see any of your PT.

Look at http://project.ptrip.com on the second page there are a few pics. However, I beleive they are from an earlier setup and I had a uDimension amplifier and Rockford head in it at the time.... Focals are all in the factory locations, Sub is in a fiberglass enclosure we built in the same location as the factory sub.

Have you listened to the Denon R1 unit? AWESOME. Best sounding player I have heard, aside from their own Z1. Forget about those Diamond compoents man! Go have a listen to the new PolyKevlars or Utopias form Focal -- they blow the Diamonds away, especially off-axis (like they are in the PT!).

I would guess that it is a good deck. I'm quite satisfied with my Rockford 9200 actually. I think its a great price/performance ratio, especially since I got it for under $200. I'd like to put my Diamonds in my wife's Jetta. I have long admired the Focals and Dynaudios though, so you never know. Personally, I'm a horn man. I have an old (and I mean old) set of Image Dynamics horns. Before they had the different models like now. They're made out of fiberglass instead of plastic like the new ones. But I plan on getting those in the PT one day. I love the balanced sound of their subs also.

That is very good news for me. I think I'll hold off on it for now and wait until the DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R technology and compatability with car equipment issue is settled. Once I can run DVD-Rs, I'll be all over it. For now, I'll stick to hooking in the laptop, PS2 and using the stock CD player (even if it's not so great). That route would be cheaper for me in the long run, I suspect.

Thanks for the info!

Steve:

That is the deck I currently have in my PT - well its not actually in it any more - its out for waranty work for the 2nd time!!

Other than that - its been a great deck. It looks sharp and matches the silver interior.

I just wanted to warn you about my problems with SONY.
I've gone 3/4 of this summer with no stereo.

Zed
