Same here... at first I didn't want to monkey with the PT, but after a while (about a month) I decided to add some sound stuff. I've got a Nakamichi subwoofer which takes up most of the cargo area, and a couple of Alpine amplifiers under the driver's seat. In the doors I've got MB Quart speakers instead of the "Premium" P.O.S. so-called "speakers".

For the moment, I've got the stock Mopar CD player, and up until a month ago, it worked like a charm. Before long, the CD player crapped out and I could only use the radio, so my dealership replaced the entire AM/FM/CD (which now runs just fine & dandy, thank you).

Just put in a JVC CD player to replace the standard DC cassette player. That's all.

I much prefer to hear the PT Rod's Bassani exhaust note.

Okay, question for audio types here...

Would it be a better deal to get the DVD/MP3/CD player with 6.5" motorized screen or to get a $170 DVD/MP3/CD player and buy a 7" screen for not too much more?

I like seperates because things break, and if they are all one piece then its more expensive to replace. Plus, will the motorized screen cover up the AC controls?

JL Audio has a great box, very high quality. Unfortunately it comes with their 10w0 sub instead of the 10w3 or w6. I'm not sure if the depth of the w3 is too much for their Stealthbox for the PT.

I say go motorized screen. I had a CVA-1005 screen and DVA-5205 DVD player in my Tahoe and I adored that system. Only sold it to buy the new PT, and am already thinking about replacing it with the combo DVD/CD/Screen made by Panasonic. I don't have a problem with the combo. The DVD in my Tahoe was in the dash with the screen, so it made loading/unloading very easy. I'd have to put the DVD under the seat or in the back (of the PT), and for me that is a PAIN. I say go combo, and you have ease of use along with a great lookin system.

YES, the motorized screen will cover the air controls. But you dont have to have it up all the time (thats when a remote comes handy) and for the times when you have it up...I don't think I would be messing with the air controls enough that it would bother me. BUT that is a personal preference...of course!

Clarion has the finest DVD/LCD combo out on the market right now. It's largest benefit ofer it's competition, besides it's superior LCD, is that is has a secondary display on the front. This means, that the unit is FULLY functional when it is closed! You can still see the radio stations, time etc.
The fault with the Panasonic, Alpine, Eclipse etc. is that when they are closed, there is NO display to speak of. Very annoying.
My customers typically don't want to have to drive with the thing open all the time.

Anyways, the model I suggest is the Clarion VRX925VD. Seperates are alright, but do not cheap out on a low-cost DVD. You will regret it when it only lasts 6 months! Trust me on this one, you definitely get what you pay for.

Had a six CD changer placed under the passenger seat with the controls in the little console cubby hole.

Wanna upgrade speakers next...

I replaced the font door speakers with Infinity speakers. The rear speakers are some old Boston Acoustics from my old car.

Has anyone changed the dash speakers? I can't remember who makes them, but there is a 4" component speaker set available. Is it possible to modify the 3.5" speaker opening to accomidate the 4" speaker?

I also like Infinity's Basslink subwoofer package. I think it will fit under the passanger seat with no problem. The dimensions are 14-1/2" x 12-1/2" x 8" . Can anyone confirm this?

renichms I would also go with a separate head unit and DVD player. This gives you the option of upgrading to blue laser tech or a DVD nav system in the future.

I waited 9 months to install my upgrade. The problem with upgrading the sound system is that its expensive to do it right. I still believe that if you just add a sub mopar or other it would make the biggest difference for the dollars spent.

With that said my system:

Kenwood KDC-X859 CD/MP3 Receiver
JL Audio Amp 500/5 5 Channel
Speakers:
Front: JL Audio XR650-CSI 6.5” Component System
Back: JL Audio TR570-CXI 5x7/6x8 Coaxial
Sub: JL Audio Powerwedge Box with 10” Woofer CS110R-W0

Professional Installation - JL Audio dealer
Total cost installed $2,050
