Default New Cruiser questions

We got our 2002 Patriot Blue Limited Edition Cruiser yesterday. I found this forum last night and was up until 3 am reading all the great info. I was hoping you all might have some suggestions for the following:

While giving her a bath this evening, I noticed a white film on both side mirrors that washing did not remove. Any idea what this is and how I can get rid of it?

Also, any tips on how to safely remove the dealer decal and not damage the paint?

Finally, the dealer put a really tacky vanity plate on the front bumper (it's now in the trash). Where's the best place online to get cool vanity plates?

Thanks,

Kris

Congrats on your new PT. I also just got my Silver LTD 8 days ago! Not sure what the white marks are but you should also give it a few coats of Zaino - my looks great now. As for the dealer ID tag I heard that a hair dryer works to get it off if it's a glued on type. If it's a decal I'm not sure. You can always ask you dealer to remove it unless there are paying you to display it for them

Could be from a sloppy wax job
done by the dealer. Take it
back and have them clean it or
replace the mirrors.

I used a heat gun on low heat,
but you have to be EXTREMELY
careful and only heat it up
enough to get the edges to
release before you pull it off.
Again, be very careful,
otherwise you could burn the
paint.

CONGRATULATIONS !!!

First a question for you...where are you in Kansas? Anywhere near Lawrence?

I was able to just peel off the dealer decal with my fingernails, but it had only been on for a couple hours.

I did find a couple cool web site for vanity plates, but will need to get back to you with address because they are on my office computer.

Enjoy cruisin...

Once you get caught up here, almost any question you can think of is covered at http://www.ptdoityourself.net
In fact, if you go to http://www.ptcruiserlinks.com you will find enough stuff to keep you soo busy that you'll never get time to cruise.

I removed my dealer decal with a haridryer, just wave it back and forth for a few mintues then start at one corner and peel slwoly, using the hairdryetr to help the rpocess, just keep it warm.
Works like a charm!

...oh, and major congrats and the enw ride duude!

Congratulations on your new Cruiser! I think you'll find, as I have, that this is absolutely the best site anywhere for getting excellent advice from really nice folks. I've only had my Cruiser for not quite 3 weeks, but started reading these posts a few weeks before I bought her. Thanks to this site, I already had my Zaino supplies ready and waiting and think I avoided a few mistakes right from the beginning! Welcome!!!

Cruise02, welcome to the group! If you read the posts and take heed in many of the preventive measures that folks suggest, you can keep your Cruiser going without problems for quite a long time. As for the dealer decal (or whatever) park you car out in this heat for an hour and just slowly peel it off. I'm in Overland Park right now, and was able to get the decal off my car that's been on for 7 months. I guess the heat is good for something besides turning yards brown.

If the mirror film is on the plastic part, buy Mother's Back to Black and rub it all off. Sounds like a spasmatic wax job.

If the whitish stuff is dried wax, peanut butter will take it off (no, really!).

If there is adhesive residue after you remove your dealer decal with a hair dryer, WD-40(r) is excellent for removing the adhesive. Follow up the WD-40(r) with a clear water rinse then new wax as it will remove the existing wax as well as the adhesive.
