Default Instant Gratification

With all due respect to those of you who have or are still waiting, our story is thus.

We needed a new car and knew it would be at PT even though we had never even sat in one, they are that cool. We decided on a Friday that it was time to just do it and started calling dealers. We soon learned that what we had read on the web was true - you can order at MSRP and wait 8+ agonizing months or you can pay significantly over MSRP and buy one off the lot. What the heck, life is short (and our 78 Buick could die any moment). A few more phone calls and we located an inferno red limited at a dealer 180 miles away. We came to terms over the phone (including financing). We drove up Saturday morning and loved the car, but the terms we had agreed to turned out to be theoretical. We left disappointed. A few more phone calls on Tuesday located another inferno red limited, this time 100 miles away. We drove up Wednesday morning and quickly closed the deal as, compared to the first PT we looked at, this one was $1000 less, had $900 more in options (4-wheel anti-lock, bun warmers, unseat drawer), and financing was 1% less. Six quick days to happiness!

How do we like owning a PT? For those of you who remember Woody Allen's "Sleeper," its the next best thing to an Orgasmatron.

GOOD SHOW! Some dealers believe they can hog-tie PT customers due to the popularity of the vehicle. You showed great restraint by not buying on emotion. WALK AWAY! (just as you did), there will be others. (just as you found out)

What (may I ask) did you pay (over/under MSRP)? Did they have the paint protection, undercoating, ... built-in already to the price ??? ?

Hey Bean, Thanks for the welcome. I thought that you might like to know that after we brought our baby home our car dealer emailed us and told us to check out your web site! Keep cruisin'

Red -- I was getting ready to flame you for your 6-day story (we waited 1 day short of 9 mos for ours), but then I saw your Orgasmatron reference, and anybody who appreciates that is OK with me!

Have a great time crusing Red. I waited from 5/1 to 1/17, but couldn't imagine having a complex because someone had a 6 day wait. PT's are just too much fun to look at to worry who waited how long. Personally, the wait did not bother me greatly. Mostly because I bought with a "green slip" and really like my dealer and I knew I could hold the wife's 89 Escort together with bailing wire until the PT came in and she could take over that boring mini-van. Have a great time and don't forget to wave!

PS: Anybody want a cheap "beater with a heater"?

Congrats on your new Cruiser !! I hope you didn't pay too much over MSRP !! Just remember - you will always have a negetive equity in the car !! To some - that may be worth it ! I hope that DC will be able to up production to meet the demand so that people like you and others waiting in the wings for the 2002s will not get ripped off by the dealers.
( They really don't have much else going for them so they should concentrate on the Cruiser )
By todays standards !! Paying MSRP is a rip off !!
Cars are far and few between that people will pay list for.
I paid MSRP - and still feel bad about it !!
But I do love my Cruiser !
