Thank you everybody! You guys are great. I tried some of the suggestions you gave me.

It looks like we had too much stuff running...I took a chance and closed some of the things that were running in the background, like Rob suggested. Performance was only at 36%, now it's up to 53% and guess what! Internet Explorer is working again!

UT, we had tried upgrading to IE 6.0, but went back to 5 again because it seemed to get worse with the 6.0

PT Hot Rod - I went in and cleared the cache too, so that also may have helped.

This is great - another reason why this is an excellent place to hang out -- the people are so helpful!!

If you check your system resources right after you first boot your computer and they are in this range, you still have some serious issues to deal with. Your system resources should be above 85% before opening any programs.

Another suggestion:
Go to Start\Run and type "msconfig" to run the system configuration utility. Click on the Startup tab to see everything that is running at startup. There will be items here that do not show up in the Task Manager. Look for obvious items (such as Comet Cursor) or unfamiliar items. Try unchecking one, then re-boot and check your system resources.

Some programs do not need to run at startup, but the software installation does not give you this option. Some really bad resource hogs include Real Player, Microsoft Office, Act or any database program. You do not need to run these at startup. Only open them as needed.

If you use the System Configuration Utility, anything you uncheck can be checked again later if you decide you made a mistake and need to run something at startup. Just don't uncheck your antivirus program!
