Default A Computer Question

Upgrading laptops, going from a 300mhz Pentium 2 to a 1.13 ghz Pentium 3. Will the NOTICABLE processing speed actually be almost 4 times faster ( such as programs opening, web sites displaying etc)? RAM is also increasing from 96 to 512.

Maybe this will solve my DSL problems (which you guys have tried to help me with). If it doesn't, at least I will know its not because the computer is underpowered & can then go after my DSL carrier.

Here's hoping!

You'll notice programs open and run faster, the increased memory will help you multitask better (and longer), but your computer will display web sites as fast as your internet connection will allow.

My neighbor had DSL and ran fine for a few months. Then the Telco was working on the line one day and gave her DSL line to somebody else down the block and her internet speed was no better than a 56k dial-up. Took another 3 months to straighten that out and thats not counting trying to get credit for service that wasn't rendered.

DSL isn't the only nightmare out there. I've had Cox Internet since November 2001. The service is so bad...I keep getting another 30 days credit. So far, I haven't paid a dime for the connection and still have 30 free days left. As of today, they still haven't corrected the problem. If they don't get it corrected in the next couple of weeks, I'll be demanding another 30 days.

It took about a month for us to get our DSL connected correctly -- they gave DH the wrong info about the connection for our networked computers, but since then, it's run great for the last year.

But I know I guy who, when he got his DSL "hooked up", they disconnected his phone instead, and gave the number to someone else! As he had an at-home office, it was a royal #####
