Missing Wisconsin student found alive
MADISON, Wisconsin (AP) -- A missing University of Wisconsin student was found alive Wednesday, four days after she vanished from her off-campus apartment without a coat or purse, according to a news report.
Madison police would not immediately confirm they had located Audrey Seiler, 20, but officer Chris Paulson told her friends and family that Seiler "has been found in a field alive," the Minneapolis Star-Tribune reported on its Web site.
Paulson did not say where or how Seiler was found, but said police are looking for an armed suspect in connection with the disappearance, the newspaper said.
A surveillance tape showed the 20-year-old leaving her building early Saturday, and her door was left open, police said.
Volunteers from Seiler's hometown of Rockford, Minnesota, slogged through marshes around campus Tuesday, while investigators scoured phone records and searched apartments for any clue into her disappearance.
"Everybody wants you back, Audrey," her mother, Stephanie Seiler, said during a press conference Wednesday morning. "We're not stopping, Audrey, and you can't stop either."
Madison Police Capt. Luis Yudice had said investigators were trying to determine whether Seiler's disappearance was related to a February 1 attack that left her unconscious when she was struck from behind by an unknown assailant.
Police look fora possible suspect in the disappearance of Audrey Seiler.
Her uncle, Scott Charlesworth-Seiler, said his niece had no idea who may have wanted to harm her and believed the attack was random.
"Audrey was worried after having been attacked and, as a result, was more careful to walk with friends and make sure she was safe," he said.
Investigators had been reviewing files of sex offenders and others with a criminal history living in the area.
"We are methodically looking into every possible reason for her disappearance," Yudice said.
Last November, University of North Dakota student Dru Sjodin was kidnapped from a mall parking lot in Grand Forks, North Dakota. A Minnesota man has been charged with abducting her. She is feared dead, but no body has been found.
