No Lisa, i am far from naive. It's just that i have some morals. And i sincerely doubt that President Reagan or President Bush had some 19 y.o. bimbo blowing them while they were on duty as president.

Inferno Red, well said, from someone who was there....thank you for your service.

Desert Shield/Storm is a perfect example of the ineptitude of the UN. We should have been allowed to finish the job. Everyone I worked with over there (Saudi) felt the same way, because we knew that by leaving Hussien in place only meant another trip back there at a later date. I would "guess" that that was a common feeling with pretty much everyone that was there.

That's one reason I'm glad President Bush went to war with Iraq in spite of the U.N.
It has shown them up for the irrelevant, inept and corrupt organization they have become.
Anytime a country like france with their special interest in keeping Saddam in power can veto what is the right thing to do, something needs to change.
The corruption in the U.N. is why we are at war now. Saddam thought he had an ace in the hole with the veto power he knew his friends like france could exercise over anything the United States came up with.

I haven't kept up with it, but I've heard recently there is going to be an INDEPENDENT investigation into the U.N.'s food for oil program.

Maybe the truth will come out and shock alot of people who support the U.N. and whatcha want to bet the world is going to find out the REAL reason france, Germany and maybe Russia were against any effective action against Saddam.

Just a note-postal workers and public servants take the same oath-not just the military-I took that oath when I worked for the post office. Does that mean I know more or am better than any other american?? Magical oath!!!

Also-looks like what bush jr has done this time has ostrasized us-I swear there are countries in the world that are upset with the US (for being bullies) and have said so about the whole Iraq thing.

Just because you served it doesn't make you any better of an american than anyone else that lives here. I swear, it's like some people think they are BETTER than everyone else because they were in the military. People that never served (for whatever reason) need to be grateful to those who served, but we don't have to believe they are better than everyone else.

Not the same oath, Lisa...by any means. And one thing that I learned from living overseas so many years is that anti-Americanism in Europe has long been rife...it's called "envy" and "sour grapes," especially amongst the French.

It is the same oath my father took in the service-most certainly!!! Same oath that the vietnam vets took-I asked them when I was working beside them at the USPS. Same one Gus' father took when he was in the service. Does it offend you that all government positions take the same oath? Should the one the service takes be special??? Tell your congressman and maybe that will change.

And envy doesn't exclude the fact that they think we are bullies-which was what I was responding to.

Lisa, the military oath includes taking lawful orders from those appointed over you and implicitly agreeing to risk your life to carry out those orders. As I said, not the same thing at all.

Those same foreign countries have long accused us of being "bullies" and cowboys. That is envy and sour grapes. Nothing new there.

Well, whatever-if you insist. I have never heard of that and neither have any military people I know-including combat vets and officers. I just got done dating someone who was in Desert Storm and he even said the oath was the same. I am not going to argue the point-you believe what you want I'll stick to the truth as told by all of the military men I know.

The Military Oath
The following oath is taken by all personnel inducted into the armed forces of the United States, as found in the US Code, Section 502.

I, _________, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God.
Is that the oath you took?
