Default Why Haven't We Captured or Killed Him?

This is not a political (Republican vs Democrat) question, so don't take it that way.

Just wondering why, after 2 1/2 years, we have not captured or killed this guy, who has admitted responsibilty for 9/11.

We (USA) have all the resources of the most powerful nation on the planet, and yet he still runs free. Maybe we have underestimated the enemy, maybe we overestimated our capabilities, or maybe we should spend the billions of dollars exploring Mars on home security.

Just wondering what y'all think, so keep it civil please.

And maybe we already have him. If we don't have him already, you have to take into account the terrain there. Why do you think the Russians were unsuccessful there? Its rough terrain, with lots and lots of hiding spots. Add to that, the fact that threre are still lots of people there that don't want him caught, therefore, we don't get the types of tips like the ones that led to catching Saddam.

But I have a feeling we already have him, or know enough about where he is that he can be plucked up at any moment.

We may not have captured him yet but we have put a real hurt on his ability to terrorize. Remember Eric Rudolph? It took how long to find him in this country and they even knew the area he was in.

Remember Vietnam. We underestimated big time there. All the tunnels and such. Plus the USA tries its hardest not to injury inocent people. Big difference there. Look at 911. All inocent people. Terrible. They hide in hospitals, schools, etc. I wish we could just drop the bomb and the country would be no more but, most of the people, husbands, wifes, kids have nothing to do with it. Bin Laden and the others are very dangerous but hiding behind skirts, they are cowards. Capture Bin Laden, put him in the plane strapped to a bomb and let it fly.

Exacly! How about the Unibomber? Or Ted Bundy? It all takes time. Patience... Patience.

U.S. Denies Bin Laden Caught 'Long Time Ago'

Iran's State Radio Makes Report

POSTED: 10:25 a.m. EST February 28, 2004
UPDATED: 2:41 p.m. EST February 28, 2004

TEHRAN, Iran -- U.S. and Pakistani officials are denying a report from Iran's state radio that Osama bin Laden was captured "a long time ago."

Iranian radio reported Saturday that bin Laden was taken into custody in Pakistan a while ago and that President George W. Bush was intending to use his arrest for "propaganda maneuvering in the presidential election."

The report also said that U.S. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld's visit to the region this week was in connection with the arrest.

Iranian radio says it has two sources for the report of bin Laden's capture. One of those alleged sources, the editor of an English language Pakistani newspaper, tells The Associated Press he "never said this."

The newspaper editor, Shamim Shahed, however, does say bin Laden is within the Americans reach and "they can declare him arrested any time."

Hunt For Bin Laden Heats Up

U.S. officials say they're rounding up relatives of top al-Qaida fugitives for questioning to try to catch bin Laden and his top lieutenants.

Officials say the information gleaned from questioning so far is unconfirmed and hasn't pinned down bin Laden's exact location.

Some officials say useful information has come from Afghan and Pakistani relatives and friends of al-Qaida fugitives.

Rounding up relatives helped the United States nab Saddam Hussein in Iraq and U.S. officials hope the strategy will succeed with bin Laden as well.

Information from the relatives combined with spy satellites, communication intercepts and prisoner interrogations may help pinpoint the elusive leader.

Because he's blending in with the goats and camels...

Look at Hussein - didn't look the same and was living like a sewer rat.

I think we should give Bin Laden cancer, then use him for research on a cure - let his life do some good.

I also heard that he had been arrested, but bush was waiting to use hime to help win the election. Wouldn't surprise me-he needs all the help he can get at this point. Heard he was tied in the polls with Kerry and his approval rating was down to 42%.

Because he's a slippery character with some allies and resources behind him. But we're keeping him on the run and that's largely stymied his organization and his plans for us. We're keeping the pressure on and that's what counts.
