Jeez joeM, your idea of a Naval hero is an actor who avoided WWII by pretending to be a Naval hero. No wonder you like dubya! He avoided Viet Nam by pretending to be a fighter pilot. It suddenly becomes clear!

Squid? Why do you always have to be so insulting?

To those of us who served in the Navy, being called a squid isn't really an insult...in fact, it would be impossible for a hairman to insult anyone who was in the real military.

I too served in the Navy and it is to me. Names like that aren't neccessary. It's like me calling a Marine a sea-going Bellhop. I would never do that (unless I was really drunk and wanted to get my head kicked in).

First time I ever came across a Navy guy or gal who objected to being called a "squid" and I worked a lot with the Navy in Europe and Asia. But if you're offended, Red, then I apologize.

Apology accepted. Sorry. I thought "squid" was a derogatory term. I stand corrected. Gotta defend us "swabbies" you know.

Actually, all the Navy folks I met thought "squid" was fine, but not "swabbie"! That would get you a punch in the chops. The Navy guys called us Air Force guys "bus drivers" 'cause of our uniform.
