My Wife is very much into seeing it but I can't seem to muster any interest. She was raised Catholic and I was raised Methodist. I reckon we're just a little more laid back about the whole thing.
I did notice someone mention parents seeing it prior to taking kids to see it. Just based on reviews, clips, Gibson's interviews and personal accounts from friends I'd have to say this is *not* a movie for kids. By kids I mean early-teens and under. My son knows the stories of the bible but that doesn't mean he needs to see someone being scourged raw for 15 minutes. For those that decide it would be a good thing for a child to experience this film all I can say is enjoy the nightmares. They'll have 'em for awhile. ![]()

From what I've heard about Mel Gibson, he is a devout Christian and his church, faith, ect. are a very important part of his life. I don't know how to say this, without it appearing to be self-serving and without it looking like I am judging Mel Gibson, which is not the case. But if being a Christian I wanted to make a movie that would lead people to Christ, that would be payment enough, to be able to do that. My thoughts are, if I was in Mel Gibsons place, I hopefully would look at what Christ has already done for me, no charge. Here is a man, that gave up his life for me, so that I will have eternal life. He took on all my sins and asked for NOTHING in return. Hopefully I would ask myself, now that I have received all this from his death, isn't that sufficient ? Do I need to make money on his death on top of that ? It's MY turn to give back, as best I can. So I would take out a fair wage for making the movie, pay everyone involved, pay the bills then donate everything else to causes that I felt Christ would approve of. As far as people making money on all the other movies about Jesus, like OT pointed out, I guess most of them were made in the 70's. I was an Atheist then, so I didn't care one way or the other. ---------------------------------------- |

I was not aware he invested 25 million in the movie. Of course he should get back his investment if he wishes, and a fair wage on top of that. I THINK I said "make money" and "make a profit", that has NOTHING to do with him re-couping money he invested. As far as God getting the rest, I didn't say that either. What I said was "donate it to causes that I felt Christ would approve of." You know, stuff like feeding hungry kids, paying for medical care in poor areas of this country, ect. ect. In my original post I believe I said "A Christian charity, or, OR, ANY charity trying to make this world a better place." --------------------------------- Last edited by OC Cruzer : 2nd March 2004 at 12:55 PM. |

**wonders how many winks he needs to put in this so folks realize they should take this as humor....** I had always respected him as an actor (yes even after Lethal Weapon 2-4 and the one where he sports pantyhose). In the months leading up to the release they've made a point of talking about him being a very religous guy and how important it was to him to make this movie. Which is fine by me, do what ya' feel is the way I see it. However... having seen his most of his "sit-down" interviews he's done in the last few weeks I'm noticing he's quickly approaching the slippery slope toward "Crazy-Christian" is he not? No, no I'm not putting christians down at all. Ya see while we all know folks that love god, we all also probably know folks that L-O-V-E god. The "Crazy-Christian" is the one that you take a few (un)conscious steps away from when they start getting worked up about it. All you had to do was see the rather awkward looks on his interviewers' faces when he started to slide and you'll see what I mean. Case in point (I swear I was only watching it to see this interview) Bill O'Reilly asks him, "Did God write this movie?" Mel's response, "Well everything is preordained by God. God made my bed this morning." err...riiight Mel. Okay enough levity. Back to hacking at each other. ![]()
