DCX to sell Smart coupe in Canada

DaimlerChrysler will begin selling its tiny Smart brandcoupe and convertible cars in Canada this fall as 2005 models. The two-seaters -- at 98.4 inches long almost four feet shorter than a Mini Cooper -- will feature a high-efficiency 800cc, three-cylinder, 40-horsepower diesel that gets 67.2 miles per gallon. Prices in U.S. dollars will range from $12,185 for the coupe to around $15,000 for the convertible. Standard safety equipment will include antilock brakes and electronic stability control. DaimlerChrysler plans to sell slightly larger Smart models in the United States within three years. The Smart line includes a sporty mini-roadster. Mercedes-Benz dealers will sell Smart cars in Canada. Smart cars have sold in Europe since 1998."

If your commute was on normal streets (not freeways), this thing would probably be ok. Think of it as a faster golf cart, or a slower (but covered) motorcycle.
