Unhappy Omg ! Flood!!!!

Saturday morning, after working all night, we had our water main blow. I live in a townhouse with no basement. So the ground floor is the kitchen and living room. This is where it happened. The compression coupeling that goes from the 1 1/2 inch plastic pipe to the 1 1/4 brass pipe came off. This coupeling is before the main valve so there was no way to turn it off. We called the city to turn off the big valve under the sidewalk, but it took them almost 2 hours to get there!!! So for 2 hours we had a 1 1/2 inch pipe under 100 psi flowing through our house. I didnt think till after to take a pic. But we had 2-3 inches of water running out the front door!

We were able to get a cleanup crew right away so they were able to get most of the water up before anything was ruined to far. The only thing I was really worried about was our big screen TV. But a neibor helped me carry it up the stairs, and looks to be OK.

All is well now, we have 3 industrial fans and a dehumidifier to dry it all out.It is quite loud down stairs!

Be wary of the dreaded mold behind the walls, in a year or two!

While water my be the souce of all life, it is a horrible thing to happen in a house. My outside spigot for water went out through my front wall from my kitchen sink. The 6" pipe that was INSIDE the wall cracked and the whole wall rotted and the cement floor cracked and had it a big hole in the corner. My insuance would cover NOTHING. Then sent me a note to say that my insurance no longer covered mold isssues (I hadn't even enquired about mold).
All I was going to do is have a new floor put in my kitchen and I wanted it wall to wall-not just butted up against the cabinet, so that when I wanted to (eventually) replace the cabinets and re-arrange the kitchen I would not have to re-do the floor (I am doing marble tile-so it would be expensive to re-do). Now I am spending another $6K to repair the walls, repair the floor, replace the floor (which I was doing anyway) and put in all new cabinets, dishwasher, sink, etc.

Watch out for that water damage!!!

Sorry to hear that Mark.

Hearing stories like this makes me glad I have a water tap key (wrench)
I would hate for that to happen.

Hope there was not too much damage and like Kevin said. watch out for the mold.

Home owner insurance does cover residual damage caused by the sudden bursting of a water pipe. If you are a renter and don't have renters insurance call me 1-800-529-7266, this is a shameless pitch for your business. If you have any questions please feel free to call, I'll be glad to help you.
