I was always really scared by Alfred Hitchcocks movie, The Birds. I was afraid it was really going to happen. Also, there was another movie, The Blob, maybe? It was where this big slimy thing would go from sewer to sewer killing people. Does anyone remember which movie I'm thinking of?

I vote for 'Don't Look in the Basement". These little creepy guys drag poor Sally down through the fireplace. They keep calling Salllleeeeee!, Salllleeee! in this spooky whisper. Everyone thinks she's nuts and ignores her entirely until she disappears.

Scares the crap out of my wife.

Just watched one yesterday called IDENTITY that was pretty freaky. But the one that still gets me is THE EXORCIST. I still cannot watch that movie.

Also I would have to say the first "Friday the 13th"

the best is where the kid jumps out of the water at the end of the movie and pulls the girl in the water
that did scare the crap out of me

I'll go with the original (B&W) version of Night of the Living Dead and add the B&W classic The Haunting (Vincent Price) to the list. That one really got to my (at the time) girlfriend. (Now wife)

John Carpenter did a good job of scaring the cr*p out of viewers with the original Halloween. While the film itself wasn't really a landmark, his method of inducing fright may have been.
