Ours is kept indoors but does manage to escape every once in a while. We vowed to keep our cats indoors after our next door neighbour came to our door with our beloved Scooter in a garbage bag.

All 3 of our kitties are indoor dwellers. I see too mant flat cats on the road. I feel sorrow for the cat or dog hit and injured on the road, but contempt for the owners. HOWEVER, I know some animals DO escape and get out no matter how carefull one can be and the owner cannot be blamed. I am trying not to anger any one here. Just saying me .02 worth!

I have one cat that wanders both in and out. She hates being inside for too long (gets a hankerin' for mice) so she insists on going outside.
The others are inside and would prefer to stay where it is snuggly and warm.

Inside, and I really wish they were OUTSIDE. We can no longer keep any house plants due to their destructive behavior (eating them, shreading them and sleeping IN the plants). One developed an eating disorder when we brought home the new dog ( she was P.O.d that we would bring THAT thing into the house). So now she steals the dog's food when he isn't looking, wolfs it down, then pukes. She has plenty of both canned AND dry food of her own, out of reach of the dog, but she insists on stealing his, no matter the brand.

Our last cat was an IN and OUT kitty, but got hit by a car, so our current cats are inside only since I've been out-voted by the the wife and kids.
