Cool Honest Eds Stories

Kat asked a while back what Honest Eds in Toronto is. For those of us who know about this bazzar of discount shopping, it is a fun place to shop. Would anyone like to chime in with any stories, advise, or other comments about Honest Eds for our dear friend Kat??

Thanks!

Dan!

Well, let me give you my opinion. I visited the place just 2 weeks ago and it is bizarre. It's the biggest collection of cheap crap and off-brand stuff I've ever seen. I guess Ed made millions off the place, but I didn't spend a penny and got lost trying to get out of the place. At least I can say I went, even though it was a waste of time. Hey, the guy owns all the big theatres in town and produces some fine shows. That counts for something.

You wouldn't believe Ed's signs they look out of place.. very Tacky I haven't been there in years but there is a Hooters nearby

The last time that I was there I took the subway I think it was on Queen St. West.

No, It is on Bloor St W somewhere around Spadina or Bathurst. It is about 3 to 5 subway stops west of Yonge St, which is the main NS line.

Honest Ed will and does sell almost anything. The aisles are so narrow it is hard to get more than 2 people across.
The business is a series of connected houses with the walls knocked out. This leads to the main floor being on more than level, up a few stairs or down a few stairs.
A lot of years ago, he had a special on very large appliances. It was a good one, only one small catch, you had to get the item out of the store by yourself or with your own friends/relatives assistance. He offers no inside assistance, and no delivery.
But if you can get it to the cash registers, and out the doors, it is yours. Also no parking, so you have to find a way to get your purchase from the sidewalk to your destination.
As someone said, very bizarre store.

But what a fun place!!! One visit there and you may never what to go back but what an experience!!! Watch your step as the floors are very uneven, just sort of patched over when the walls between the houses were knocked down.
Ed has done very well, he opened a dining establishment years ago close to the Princess of Wales theater (he also owns), not sure if it is still open but he furnished it with various tables (none matching or matched by accident only) same with the chairs and china as well as silverware. The only item on the menu was roast beef and he made a killing with that too. Man knew how to market anything and always with a sense of humour.
