Circling the wagons in case of indian attack?
![]() ....seriously, I'm thinking some kind of horse show...see the rider in the foreground with a riding helmet and looks more like a thoroughbred type of horse rather than the ones pulling the wagons.

...another thought to go along with my theory. All the wagons are empty. Maybe that's how they transported show/race horses around in those days. They sure didn't have horse trailers like they do now.

Maybe it was the 1st drive in theatre with live actors. or They were recreating the battle of the bulge, demolition derby style.
Maybe it was an intervention gone out of control. (For the guy standing in the middle of the circle) How about a old fashion game where every one races to the middle and the winner gets a horse to ride home. A game of "death tag". Picture of the great gas crisis of 1910. 1/16th mile drags.. ![]()
