Default Things To Do - Lone Elk / Bird Sanctuary Parks

Lone Elk Animal Park

This beautiful drive-thru animal park and wildlife refuge is located only a few miles from our Meet Me In St. Louis Event and a great place to take the family to see natures beauty and beasts in a natural setting.

The Lone Elk Park is a FREE attraction that allows you to drive through a paved road that winds through 546 acres of beautiful wildlife bluffs right along Highway 44 and the old Route 66.

Wildlife roams free in the park with bison, wild turkey, waterfowl, elk and deer year round. No fencing or restrictions.

Nothing more breathtaking than looking out your PT Cruiser windows to see these walking right along side of you....

A definite must for wildlife lovers!!! and it's FREE!!! Lot's of picnic areas and shelters...

(but whatever you do... DON'T HONK YOUR HORN)

Last time BKSurferGirl and myself drove through we had one of those huge bison within 3 feet of our car... wish I would have brought my camera.... that would have been an awesome photo opportunity...

World Bird Sanctuary is also located here.

The World Bird Sanctuary's mission is to preserve the earth's biological diversity and to secure the future of threatened bird species in their natural environments. We work to fulfill that mission through education, propagation, field studies and rehabilitation.

Educational programs, nature trails and displays featuring birds in their natural environments will help visitors understand the relationship between birds, their environment and humans. You will also experience our education department in action. Talk with one of our Naturalists about our birds that have taught thousands of people nationwide their role in the world and the problems they are facing, learn what you can do to help. Many of our "teacher" birds are on display for up close viewing!

See our National Symbol the Bald Eagles anlong with many condors, owls, hawks, mews, parrots, and many more....
