*GASP* Mine was a bit melted from the side. Nothing big but I took care of it. Thanks for the warning!

Wow!! wonder how that happened. Was somebody working under the hood and moved it to get it out of the way? I don't see how that naturally happened, but I will check mine right away.
Thanks.

Thank you for the post. Just returned from Home Depot with a bag of zip ties. The gas line on my '03 dream cruiser no longer rests next to the ac line.

The gas line is held in place with a clip far away from the AC lines on my '04.

Just checked my 2005 with 1700 miles.
Chrysler installed a "standoff" bracket that keeps the line high and away from any possible chaffing.

Thanks Eagle and good luck.
Too close for comfort for you.

Default actual recall text

I believe the NHTSA recall included 2001 Cruisers only. (Mine was built in June or July of 2000.) I received a handful of increasingly urgent recall notices in 2002 which I tossed into a desk drawer. (As a former Pontiac Fiero owner, I was used to weekly recalls.) Finally after seeing photos in one of the Cruiser forums, I checked under the hood of my PT and immediately made an appointment at my dealer.

Anyway, if you search the NHTSA files at http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/pr...callsearch.cfm you will find:

Make : CHRYSLER Model : PT CRUISER Year : 2001
Manufacturer : DAIMLERCHRYSLER CORPORATION
NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number : 02V214000 Recall Date : AUG 07, 2002
Component: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE: DELIVERY:HOSES, LINES/PIPING, AND FITTINGS
Potential Number Of Units Affected : 97779
Summary:
ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES, THE FUEL SUPPLY LINE COULD CONTACT THE AIR-CONDITIONING TUBE SERVICE PORT. THIS CAN CAUSE CHAFING OF THE LINE RESULTING IN A FUEL LEAKAGE.
Consequence:
FUEL LEAKAGE IN THE PRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE COULD RESULT IN A FIRE.
Remedy:
DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE FUEL LINE FOR ABRASION AND INSTALL A CLIP TO ENSURE ISOLATION. IN CASES WITH EVIDENCE OF FUEL LINE ABRASION, THE FUEL LINE WILL BE REPLACED. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN AUGUST 12, 2002. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT DAIMLERCHRYSLER AT 1-800-853-1403.
Notes:
DAIMLERCHRYSLER RECALL NO. B16. ALSO, CUSTOMERS CAN CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S AUTO SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-DASH-2-DOT (1-888-327-4236).

Cool Re: Possible Disaster!! **PLEASE READ!**

I started this thread clear back in 2001 when the threat was quite dangerous. Since then they did a recall to fix anyone who had the same problem by rerouting the fuel line.

This thread should really be closed methinks at this point, since I noticed it keeps popping up. All of the newer models have had this little design flaw fixed.

I would like to say thanks for this message. I purchased my 2001 cruiser second hand, and if it wasn't for this thread, I would not know about it. I will be checking mine in the morning.

Does anyone know if it is just the LHD model, or are RHD affected as well?

Mark

I think the gas line fix was the first recall, about two years ago.
