Default Auto Transmission Problem

Just wanted to relay a problem I had with my 2001 28G (14K miles) on Sunday and what the dealer did to fix the problem yesterday.

I was driving home on Sunday when at about 50 MPH the transmission acted like it was in Neutral when it was really in Drive. The Check Engine light came on too. I was able to pull off to the side and get the car working in 1st and 2nd. I finally found a spot off the freeway where I was able to stop and turn off the car. I started in up again, Check Engine light is still lit, but then the transmission started to work again. I drive home with no more problems.

I drive it around town a few times Sunday evening and eventually the Check Engine light went out too.

Ok, I took it in yesterday morning and they first suspected it might be a computer glitch or a loose connection somewhere in the area of the transmission. As it turns out the technician who worked on it had seen this problem a couple of other times. He ended up replacing the Transaxle Solenoid Assembly.

So you can file that one away for future reference.

Regards,
Chris

Thanks Chris. That little tidbit of information is getting filed in the "oh no" section. I appreciate having the answers BEFORE the problems appear... just in case.

BUMMER!! I know the Chryco vans have a LIMP-IN mode when prob arise- it will allow you 1st and 2nd gears when poop happens.

Sometimes, disconnecting the battery for a while to drain any error codes in the computer may help.

Either way, thanks for posting, sounds like your tech was on the ball here.

Sean, 5 spd
