As stated above, use a car specific shampoo to wash your car. Many like to use the two bucket method, one bucket with shampoo and the other bucket with just water to rinse/clean off your washing mitt or towel after washing a section. A water hose works just as well to clean/rinse off any dirt from your washing mitt/towel before washing the next section. Helps prevent the possibility of scratching your paint or woody paneling from dirt picked up by your mitt/towel.
Would suggest using a non-abrasive wax, carnauba or synthetic, not a one step cleaner/wax. You dont want to use a product that might mar your vinyl woody paneling. For locally available waxes, Meguiar's #26 Hi-Tech Yellow or Deep Crystal Step 3 wax , Mother's Natural Formula Pure Carnauba Wax, and S100 (available at your local motorcycle shop) are excellent choices. If you have a local distributor in your area, Zaino is a popular long lasting synthetic wax/polish and is also non-abrasive. There are many other wax choices, many available only through mail order or the internet, and others will post their favorite products to expand the choices available to you.
