Angry front brake pads

dont ever buy O' Reilly store brand front brake pads. They only last 18K and wore my rotor surfaces down about 1/16". I didn't turn my rotors when I installed those $55 Wagner pads, but I still may have to bite the bullet and get them turned. Any one know what the limit is on the rotor thickness?

Minimum Thickness is usually stamped on the rotor hat. Below is the minimal rotor thickness from the service manual:

BRB/BRT SALES CODE:
Front: 21.40mm or 0.843 in
Rear: 7.25mm or 0.285 in

BR4 SALES CODE:
Front: 26.40mm or 1.039 in
Rear: 10.25mm or 0.404 in

Get Raybestos ceramic pads - NO DUST. And, they work fine.

I haven't checked in a while but I think it's about the same price.

I will be testing the new NAPA ceramic front brake pads for the PT very soon.

They are ordered and should be here soon. It will take a while to test them.

I changed to the Wagner MX-841 pads with only 8 miles on my Dreamer and they are the best choice other than ceramics.

I'll post pricing and test results soon.

The NAPA part number is CMX7716.

Currently, they are only in a Kentucky and Texas distribution center. Widespread distribution should happen as soon as they start getting special orders for them.

Due to the aforementioned problem with the O'reillys store brand front pads, I had to replace both front rotors today to the tune of $82. The wear caused by those pads exceeded the limit on the 0.840 inch min. rotor thickness allowed. I made sure I got the Wagner rotors and not some cheap knock-off.
This was a lesson learned the hard way..........Now I have brand new Wagner rotors and Wagner brake pads. Total investment: $138.

The PT's got 69,900 miles on her now and I've done all the preventative maintenance that is required at least for another 21,000 miles when I will replace the plugs again.

I am really not looking forward to the 120,000 mile service as that is the mileage when the service book says to change the timing belt. Maybe I'll get brave by then so I can do it myself.
