It's time to replace my brake pads and after searching through the forum it seems that the Wagner Thermo Quiet - MX 841's are the most desirable? Problem is I can't find them anywhere in town. The closest I got was a brake parts store that said they used to carry them but switched to Ray-Bestos. Another brake shop told me they thought Wagner had been bought out by someone.
My question is, what would be a close in quality second to the Wagners. I need to pick them up locally as I can't wait for them to be shipped. Thanks Don S

Buy the Raybesto ceramic pads, part # PGD841QS . Your local parts store should be able to get those for you quickly if they are not in stock. Most have noticed less dust after changing the pads.
I should add that if you have a NAPA store in your area, they should be able to get the Wagner pads for you.

Thanks for the info.
I found a parts house that said they could get them the same day from their warehouse. When I went to pick them up they told me the warehouse had called and didn't have any so I broke down and went to the local Chrysler dealer. $130. They offered me a set for $40 that they now carry called V-line or Value line. I opted for the OEMs at $130. When I got my wheels off I found that the rear pads had 60% or better and the left front had 40% or better but the right front had nothing left. This seemed a bit odd to me. Any ideas as to why they would wear like this? Should I have my dealer look at the brakes? |

Wagner Thermo Quiet pads are available at www.AutoPartsGIANT.com. They are about $35 per set plus shipping. My understanding is that they are identical to the $130 OEM pads. Check right front caliper to make sure it is sliding freely.

As far as the right front wearing faster than the left front, it could be many things. A sticking left caliper piston or caliper assembly sticking as mentioned above, comes to mind or it could just be a problem with the right pads. Should do a visual brake pad inspection at every or every other oil change. For those interested in different pad performance, avg. pedal force, and temperature readings, here is a pdf file: Evaluation of Replacement Brake Pads for Police Patrol Vehicles
