What we will be doing, class, is using the stock rear speakers as Crossfire Speakers (ahhhh isnt that name Coincidental???)

Soon as a half dozen posts are in this thread, by others, I will proceed with the added information.

I've done that years ago back in the mid 80's. It was a popular install on the west coast. We nicknamed it the california crossfire.

Installling the rear pkg shelf UPSIDE DOWN i.e. with the hardshell side facing up, allows rear sound from both the speakers to bounce towards the front much better.
Inch by inch the STOCK PT sound components are reaching new highs (and bass too....).
Hope y'all with stock systems are following all this.

Have to find out next how/where the rear speaker wires run.
There is a large harness on right side, almost none on left. Do they run overhead behind headliner or down and across the floor???? Info appreciated for phase R.3 of sound revisions.

Well if you wanna try to crossfire your rear speakers, as GR8 implies, you need to remove both rear speaker covers by popping them off, access the speaker wires after removing the speakers, then SWAP the wires by adding about a 6 ft lead to each speaker INPUT wire from the head unit. Use the left supply to feed RIGHT speaaker, and vice versa.
U can easily run them overhead by sneaking them into the back of the headliner.

Try it you may like it.

I have all the sound I need from my stock system now, having 'tuned' the stock system like you will tune an engine- making it perform to the max with minimal cost .

If U havent tried it dont knock it!!!

And StOnEdWhTe, if the mod works U will no when U try it!!!!

Cheers-

L.

Final ( ? ) step in the Stock PT AMFMCD system-
Did the crossfire swap. If U do so, be sure to add extra 6" each end so U can be sure to feed the speakers from below, as there is a stamped groove in the body frame to let wiring thru easily.
I simply cut the ends off each female terminal and resoldered them to my leads that passsed over the top thru headliner.
Test sound before reinstalling permanently.

Final grade for the mods-
Sound quality increased at least 50% with the opening of the grilles in front doors.
The use of package shelf inverted to bounce rear speaker sound more to the front added another 25 or 20%.
The switch to crossfire was minor, perhaps another 10%.
Bottom line---------

Total cost to increase sound quality of stock system 80% or better was time only and some extra speaker wire I had laying around.
No bragging rights as to how many hp my new amp has or names of the new speakers, but it sure do sound Fiiiiiiiiine!

I would like you to post a pic of your front grills. Have you thought of angling the rear speakers or adding rear tweeters? I have a set of tweeters that would work for the rears, & I can design a crossover for them if you are interested. Let me know.

I added a set to my 86' Grand Am years ago & it did the job for quite awhile before the final system upgrade.
If anyone else is interested let me know, I should still have a couple sets still laying around.

BTW, the rears have no tweeters currently in the PT. DC was trying to save $$$
