Default Satellite Radio. Good thing or not worth it?

I have a birthday coming up next month and as it is number 5 - 0 this year I am allowed to select a fairly big ticket item as my 'special' gift!

I am kind of leaning towards getting the Sirius satellite radio installed. I have a 2002 so I would have to get the receiver and the tuner as I don't think my radio is Satellite ready so it is a pretty major purchase. I spend a lot of time in the car commuting every day and as I like oldies music that is what I usually listen to. We only have one decent oldies station in the DC area and it gets kind of stale after a while, and even my CDs get tedious after a while.

So, bearing in mind I will have to pay the $12 a month subscription from the start do you think it is worth it? Or is it just a waste of good money that I could spend on other mods the my Cruiser?

Default Yee Hah I'd go for

a HUGE gift certificate to Amazon or B & N and get CD anthologies of what I wanted. Hank Snow, The Texas Rangers, and on .....
Between NPR and local stations and the CD's you outta be set.
That dern magic radio service charges for every accessory-
I'll take Vanilla.

I have the XM Radio version in my PT. I do alot of driving so to me it was the best purchase I have made. No more searching for local stations in every town you go through, Or fumbling with changing cds as you are driving. Nothing like locking on to a station in New York and never having to change it all the way to California.

Default Satellite radio

I have Sirius and love it, you pay 3 extra bucks per month, but no commercials on the 60 music channels. Cheaper than buying CD's.

We have it with our Dreamer II . It was nice for the trip up to and back from the Falls . Not having to change CD's or find stations will driving through the states. With me I probably won't pay the $13 a month
too keep the subscribtion once the free year run's out but we do not drive the Dreamer that much. If you do a lot of long distance driving
I guess it might be worth it.

You wouldn't have to change radios, both have units that plug into your current systems FM antennea and have an FM modulator.

I have a Sirius unit and unlike XM, it is totally commercial free on all music stations. The ads you will hear are on like ABC News, CNN, Bloomberg, etc.

Satellite radio is worth it if you do a lot of driving. I have it in a car I travel with (not the PT) and when you are driving through multiple states or in excess of 6 or 7 hours in a day, it is definitely worth it. The one thing it doesn't have...the Bob & Tom Show in the mornings. I just love them!

The key here is as stated above.... the time you spend in your car. I drive less than one song to work so douring the week it is not worth $3 a month and mabie not on the weekends eather. But if you comute a hour to work, whitch is common, it might be worth it to you.

I have thought since they came uot with this, that there is big money in RENTING a sattelite system. As i said it is not worth $13 a month to me...........But i might pay $50 for two weeks while on vacation and not have to worry with not bringing enuf CDs or out of range of the FM.
